naturally tamed grouse?

Recommended Posts

I was deer hunting my grandfathers land for deer this fall when I came across a friendly grouse. He would fly up in my stand and actually fly onto my shoulder. I talked to my grandpa about this later and he said that the grouse has been out there for some time now. Every time he goes out to cut wood, the grouse will come running to him. Has anyone else heard of this??????

It happens. Over the years I've had 2 of them like that. The last one about a year and a half ago. It would chase the atv and land on the handle bars or on my head or shoulder. When I was cutting firewood it would stand on the tree about a foot from the saw blade and I would have to get him to move so I could cut the next log. I was always afraid he was going to peck at the chain while I was sawing. We had a thread going on this about a year or so ago.

I have friend that had a grouse on property near his house that would do similar things. It was not scared at all. When out Pheasant hunting or just walking it would come up to him or anyone. It was around for a few years. Everyone around it left it alone because they thought it was pretty cool, until one day when a stranger hunted his neighbors land shot it because it was so easy to do.

One my friends had a ruffy that also enjoyed the 4-wheeler. I even fed it corn out of my hand. It disappeared, I never fed it again.

P.S. We 4-wheel in Beltrami State Forest. smile.gif

WAG, Newfolden huh? I bet we know a lot of the same people!

Anywho, we had a grouse when we lived on the river in Thief River Falls that would fly from across the river to hang out everytime my brother would pull up to visit. We took a ton of pics of the critter, I'll get them digitized and post them.

It does happen and is very cool to see!

I bet we do, I have recently moved Westward, but not too far. Went to College in TRF.

I have plenty of pictures also, but I'm not too good at the whole technology thing, as far as scanning them and posting them. The weirdest thing is that grouse wasnt even afraid of my freinds dog. as long as we were around it enjoyed our company.
