Hambone42
Does anyone know the driving conditions on Sabaskong Bay or Crow Lake?We are heading up the 3rd and plan on bringing sleds, but it would be nice if we didn't need them.
Hemlock
I tried going off of a track yesterday in my Jimmy and that lasted all of about 5 seconds. Stuck! Still plenty of snow on the lake, I would guess plowed roads or snowmobiles. This is on LOW, south of Kenora. Good news is, the slush has vanished. Duffman
Any recent updates???? How did this past weekends warm conditions effect things. Heading up a week from Wednesday, sure would be nice if I don't have to bring a sled. Thanks for any info!
Green&Gold
I just got an email yesterday morning from Chris Trinkner at Muskie Bay Resort advising me to tow up a snow machine. I had emailed them earlier and asked what mode of travel is best up there right now. Sounds like that despite the warm weather at least on Saturday, there is still enough snow to warrant tracks vs. tires. That's what I know! uffdapete
We started out of Crow on snowmachines Mar. 5 & 6 in search of trout on other area lakes. Sat. it was in the mid 30's and by afternoon the crust was soft enough that the machines pulled hard in spots but no danger of getting stuck. You wouldn't have gone anywhere by ATV or truck though. With cooler temps Sun. afternoon travel became easier. Once the temps warm regularly into the 30's it's going to be tough going until some of the snow is gone. There's approx 18" of snow pack and 4-6" of slush underneath on top of the ice in most areas.
Hemlock
uffda....do you have a fishing report?
Hambone42
I do.Fishing was OK. We fished mostly past Cyclone Point.Caught most of our fish at the end of the road to the right. We took the sleds past the Sand Portage and caught a few in that bay. We caught our limit of Crappie and a handful of Walleye. We ran into a few slushy spots on the sleds, still lots of snow on the lake. But the cold snap that came monday should have firmed things back up. I would definitely bring sleds, though.
uffdapete
We spent most of our time on Caviar - don't ask me where - I was totally lost! Saw fish on the Vex in most of the holes we drilled - most on the bottom. 7 of us caught around 25 lakers averaging 3 lbs. on Sat. which is a smaller average than we've caught before but more fish. We've usually averaged in the 7 lb. range. Sun 5 of us landed 6 or 7 and average size was probably 4-5 lbs.Shore lunches were fabulous!!
