where to hunt spring snows in MN?

Recommended Posts

I would look twoards the SW corner of the state for better action. Don't rule out the Laquparle area, I have heard a few travel through there ocassionally. I personally have been hunting SD for the last 7 yrs. So maybe some MN hunters can give you some better locations.

I've told the fellas I'll post on the fourm when they show up. I hope they come like they did last year.

Are you talking about the geese, the other hunters on this forum, or both?

Cuz I also hope you put the hurt on 'em again this year...but I would love to pound a few myself as well.

Boilerguy,

Were they hitting lime or more over by Big Slough?

How big were the groups you were able to decoy?

I've never tried the spring hunt but it sounds kind of fun...

I've seen Lime Lake in the late fall hold waterfowl numbers that made my jaw drop!

They were everywhere. On Lime, the Big Slough, and in the fields between the 2.

Yes, I've done very well waterfowling on Lime lake. Mostly on the far west side by where the bull ditch runs into it.

I've got permission to hunt the fields right by Lime lake, and I'm pretty good friends with farmers that own fields in-between. I'm sure, when the geese show up, if I go ask to hunt the fields they will let me.

I'm kind of a rookie at spring snows. We used the honker decoys that we have. Also, we cut up a bunch of rags, old pilow cases, sheets, etc and stuck em on to sticks. By the time the snows saw that they were being bushwhacked, it was too late, hammer time.
