CrappieJohn
Matt, Del....Points very well stated. Far too many people make the assumption that tackle bought for fishing under the ice has no place in an open-water tackle box....wrong. Open water pan-fish will demand at times to down size baits to get them to hit. These little ice jigs are the perfect way to do that.Something to consider for open water is the amount of insect activity that comes alive. These two baits, the ratso's and shrimpo's, have that wriggling tail which is similar to so many aquatic insects have. They require a minimum of teasing to get action under the ice and even less in that warmer open water. Many of these finesse plastics are found in my open water boxes. And Matt....great to finally meet you! delmuts
ok guys you have me wondering again ! with the nuc. ant; are you using this alone on a jig, or in front of say a shrimpo/rasto ? do you have problems with the fish tearing off the legs and not biting the jig itself? del
Matt Breuer
I tip the Nuclear Ants with a single eurolarvae most of the time. However, if my bait is stolen, fish will definitely hit the Ant itself. I just like the euro to point the fish in the right direction... hook. As for the legs, fish nip at 'em, but they last a long time. When you get a crappie or a big 'gill eating it, they inhale the whole jig. bearplott
Has anybody tried fishing Winnie perch with these baits? What worked better? Shrimpos or Ratsos? Any particular colors? Did you tip them with anything? Thanks.
Matt Breuer
I've never used the Shrimpo on Winnie itself, the Ratso I have and had success on it. I used it on a deadstick with waxies during finicky bites and did pick up fish. Just used a small split shot to help 'er get down, and jigged with a spoon on the other rod.If you're traveling to Winnie and want to try out these baits, head over to Cutfoot!
