gopherfish
I have a great live bait rig by HT that has a treble hook on a steel leader with a small blade above it to make it legal. We have not gut hooked one pike and all have been released unharmed. I want to know if you can tie a treble hook directly to your line if you have a small blade above it? I want to put it on my tip up for walleyes, because the hooking percentage is a look better, plus it makes it better for releases on a bigger 'eye. I just want to make sure I am legal. Walleye Guy
The blade on the line MAY be legal. However I KNOW a small blade attached to the hook with a split ring is legal. Its better to be safe than sorry.
riverrat56
If i make a dropper rig with a kastmaster or swedish pimple for the main part and then run a 5 inch piece of mono down does that make it legally a lure so i can put a small treble hook on the bottom of my dropper? I would like to use the same treble i just took off the lure but i want to know if it is legal. I would think it should be since all i did was lower the hook 4 inches but there are some screwy rules out there.
Gus
has anyone actually been checked by a C.O. and been asked to bring up a line to see if you have an illegal hook on? This just seems like unneccessary worrying to me. I'm not saying go out and intentionally break the law but this just seems like worry for nothing. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong though. This is a great site.

Gus
Quote:Yes I have! As I thought might happen. Someone proved me wrong. Now that I know it has been checked, for an answer I would agree with the split ring to the hook eye just to be certian. Good luck.
dasfooter
I was checked this winter on Rainy Lake, they brought up one tip and checked everyone's line in the house, he mentioned he was looking for the illegal treble set up.
riverrat56
SO can anyone answer my question, if i tie a 4 inch mono dropper off a pimple or kastmaster can i retie on the original treble on the bottom of the mono?
Great Outdoors
It has been explained to me by a CO that the treble may be used as long as it is incorporated with a spinner, making it an artificial lure. You can have a treble on your line if it is, in their judgement, within a reasonable distance from the hook. Best bet would be to have a 2-3 foot leader with treble and spinner attached to the main line with a swivel. This would eliminate all guessing as to where the lure ends and the line begins. riverrat56
So then is the word spinner interchanable with spoon or blade? if i untie the spoon the treble hook and dropper would come with i dont have them riged so i would cut the hook off everytime and leave the spoon. My set up is just like a hali jig except longer on the dropper and it is using a treble hook.
