freighttrain50
when the ice leaves. i fish for them year round and have a blast doing so. i drop a boat in the water later in the year just so i can get to the ice. fish for them as long as i can though. msm1018
thats hard for me to do, since I'm a big skeptic of ice safety and how thick the ice really is. I hate driving on ice all the time. I assume the later into spring a hand auger is the norm as it is on early ice.
Bobb-o
Last winter the last day i went ice fishing was on April 24th. me and my roommate went up to Red, had to wear our waders as it was water and slush the first 1/8 mile, but once we got on the ice it was fine. hanson
msm1018-Depends on what lakes you are.Typically the ice is still very thick in the spring but it becomes soft and then starts to honeycomb. The shorelines will melt away first but the lake ice is still generally good for awhile if you can get to it. I still use my power auger. Now lakes like Upper Red stay drivable for a long time. I'm not positive but I want to say I was driving my half ton out in April a couple years ago. There will usually be a lot of water & slush on top but still 3+ feet of ice.
