Hunting land anywhere??

Howdy-

I'm just a lowly college student who will be attending UW LaCrosse next year. I was wondering if anyone had any land they would let me hunt (bowhunting only) or knew of anyone who would let me hunt their land. I am a reasonable guy, and would play by all the land owners rules (treestand regs, X number of yards from building, no hunting by livestock, etc). I am just a kid who loves being outdoors and chasing big deer, anyone that could help me would be greatly appreciated!! Hopfully land around Houston, Rushford, Cali area!! Thanks again!!

Alrighty...I like the idea, how nice is nice? Don't want to overdress. Should I look for certian people (older, younger, etc)? And most importantly what should I say?? Thanks a lot for the tips!

Throw me your last nickel and you might have a deal. J/K!

Actually the best thing to do is be dressed fairly nice and take a weekend to drive around the area you would like to hunt and do a door to door introduction/presentation of yourself.

Normally you can get plot books from the county office and from there you can go about finding someone willing to let you hunt.If you are going to school in Lacrosse, I would suspect that the city/county hall offices would have the plot book you would be looking for.

Good Luck.

jonny, This best success I've had is to dress nice and have something to offer in return for letting you hunt on thier property. Ihave shoveled out chicken coops in wisconsin, traded walleye for pheasant in iowa. try offering to be a guide for them on thier next fishing trip to you home area. that has worked for me being that i live close to winnie.. most of all be honest with the land owner tell him everything he asks. all that being said you will still get plenty of hell no's... so be patient and keep smiling..

good luck, The Junkie

No need for suit and tie....though you could go far in an interview someday looking sharp like that grin.gif

Seriously, dress appropriate- represent yourself as a professional. Ex. no holes in your jeans and no tennis shoes. Maybe put on khakis and dress shoes with a button up?!?!? Then just go into the drive way thinking positive and be friendly.

You might get shot down your first encounter- but don't let your loses discourage you. Continue and eventually you will find a landowner that won't mind you hunting on their land.

WHEN that permission is granted, you better treat that opportunity like you are holding a golden ticket!

Your actions speak louder than your words.

Nope, I always love to get as many opinions and helpful pieces of advice as I possible can, they can't hurt. Thank you VERY VERY much for the advice. When I get home this summer I am going to get on that.
