LOW? EAGLE? Wabigoon? Lac Seul?

Recommended Posts

In the very early stages of trying to put our first Ontario fishing trip together, and am looking for advice. We will be fishing mainly for Muskies, Walleyes, with some Smallmouth fishing thrown in.

We are all fairly new when it comes to Muskie fishing so would prefer a numbers lake to a trophy lake.

We are also looking at some resorts. indian point camp on wabigoon.... andy meyers on eagle..... Actaully we would like to just rent a boat and then tent it from there.

A Lot more stupid questions but lets start there.

Any ideas?

Superfish2, our group goes to White Otter, no muskies(that I know of) but lots of eyes and a few big swamp sharks. We bring our own boats and stop in Atikokan to buy camping permits (even though there are no "campsites" you still have to have a permit to camp on the Queens Land/Quetico). Kind of strange but a super small price to pay for the wonderfull views and outstanding fishing. If you want a resort in that area there is a place on Clearwater West Lake called Browns Resort, Clearwater West is connected to White Otter. If you end up going to this area make sure you have your boat rigged with downriggers, the lake trout fishing is great when you get sick of catching eyes. And go see Jimmys castle, it's worth the trip.

Do not go to Eagle Lake, highly overated on all species there is far better fishing in Canada. Lac Seaul is very solid on walleyes and pike, muskies are there and good size but the numbers are only so-so. I have heard the same about Wabigoon, there are a lot of big pike in there, Wabigoon is kind of a dark, murky lake though.

I am a big fan of Indian Lake Lodge in Vermillion Bay. Excellent Musky fishing, walleyes are there too. Great resort, nice people and excellent equipment(the boats are awesome). They have a HSOforum, Just type in Indian lake Lodge in your browser. Definetely a numbers Lake, I boated over 25 for the week last year....

Musky Brian- What a coincidence- I was just on the Indian Lake Lodge HSOforum last night and it looked pretty sweet-nice cabins, good euipment, etc. Did you ever go to some of their other lakes and try for anything? Did I read it right that you brought in 25 'Skis there in 1 week? It may be worth a trip up there!

I agree with MuskyBrian skip Eagle. Went on one of those bus trips. Great accomodations and food service ect. but fishing ugh. The good walleye spots were like the Freeways in the cities durring rush hour. You had to get in line and troll the pattern or be run over. Boat after boat going over the same spot. Fish ran really small. Any bay Pike all over but skinny and puny. Very disappointing. My brother in law hired a guide they caught the same little puny fish in the same spots. No secrets to fishing the lake just way too many resorts even for a big lake. I see less traffic on Minnetonka on 4th of July weekend.

8-Ball....On Indian there is a Chain, you have access to at least 7 lakes. Although the great part is that the best fishing is usually right near you and traveling far is not needed unless you are looking for something different. All the Lakes are different too in terms of clarity and structure. It is great water to get some experience on, there's ski's all over the place. The people who run this place are great too, they have a large staff and you always have someone there helping you. If you want email me at [email protected], I can give you some pics and more info from my trip if you want.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
