colt44
I may have missed discussions on this earlier so bear with me. My FL-8 SLT (new last year) has a definite slight flicker to the color readings. Brand new batteries.I looked at a pal's new one the other day and his bands are stable. Any history of this? Ed Carlson
Did you check the battery with a volt meter to be sure it is full? It should read 13.5V to 14V when fully charged. Also, keep the unit in a warm place when not in use. It is better for the sonar and the battery to be kept stored above freezing and fully charged.I still suspect low power to the unit is the culprit. 76k20
I think the leds are brighter on the se than they were on the slt. I noticed the same thing when my dads and mine were set up side by side.
Bob Horn
If you can before charging the battery let it warm up to room temp. You will get a longer life out of it.
Matt Breuer
The new SE does have a much brighter display than the older SLT's, but I think your power source is the problem. The boys are right, have 'er tested!
colt44
My batteries are new, I gave them a top off charge till they were full. I have used one for approx. 16 hours with no drop off of brightness. It's just that darned flickering of the display.
cliffy
Colt44:I know what your talking about...I got a FL-18 for Christmas three years ago and it has always had a "flicker" to it. I thought this was just normal as I had seen the same thing on my dad's FL-8 and a buddy's FL-18. I recently bought a LX-3 and what a difference..no flicker..its rock solid! As a matter of fact, I just got off the lake a few minutes ago where I had been running my FL-18 next to my LX-3 and boy could I see the difference. The brightness is about the same in each unit but the LX-3's display is solid..not even a hint of a flicker. There is no way to compare the two without seeing it first hand. Dont get me wrong..I love my FL-18 and I am not going to get rid of it anytime soon..but I have seen the light......no pun intended.
