I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, so I thought I'd poll the experts..you all .

I purchased a used Mag2000, and it seems to work fine. The only question I have: is it normal to have a little "give" where the auger shaft is attached to the power head? I changed the bolt to make sure it wasn't that. When the entire unit is upright and pointed on the ice(not running yet), there is a little wobble/give from side to side, kind of like it's a tolerance issue. I was just wondering if this is normal, or if the unit from powerhead to point is supposed to be completely stiff.

That should be normal, but check bolt often, or use some Locktite sealer, I lost bolt once guess when...while I was trough with drilling a hole...I stopped auger from falling down the hole, and caught it with my foot at last second....

The bolt in my 7 year old Lazer was terrible, in fact I drilled a hole once and the whole auger head went to the bottom of the lake in 20 feet of water! I still cannot believe it happened. I fished the auger back with the use of a underwater camera to save the day.

After that experience I took a new bolt, washers and lock nut. Never had to touch it since. There is always play though.

I assembled my new Lazer Mag last week and the manual definitely describes having a little play in the connection. The manual also recommends tightening the bolt after the first use but really didn't make further recommendations (I'm at work and can't confirm that it didn't have further recommendations, but I don't remember any).

After reading some of the other comments, it appears I need to pay a bit more attention than I first believed. Certainly don't want to be trying to catch an auger instead of fish.

Mankato-Ice-Man had a good idea: Put a few rounds of electrical tape around the shaft by the bolt hole after you snug it in.
