Devil's Lake Guide Service?

Recommended Posts

I'm coming up to Devils Lake for the first time and I was wondering if anybody knew of some Devil's Lake guides that provided anything other than the full service type of guiding. Coming up with a group of about ten and we all have our own stuff: augers, shantys, vexilars, heaters, tip-ups, jig poles, snowmobiles, etc... and would just like to hook up with a guide to point us in the right directions. Just wondering if you guys think that we should bite the bullet and fork out the cash to get the full service guides for a day or two or not. I know we would definately learn alot from the fully guided trip but just looking to try and make the trip more affordable for the group. Let me know what you think. I'll definately be posting our results when we go. Thanks in advance!

There are certain guides on DL that offer what is called a "Tag along" package. Basically this is just what it sounds like, you tag along with the group. They do coach you on what is working and such but all the transportation and gear, bait, etc is your responsibility. A "Tag Along" is at a lesser rate then a full guided trip but far from the experience of getting a dedicated guide set in the group.

If you do a bit of research on DL fishing guides off the net you will find this package offered.

I have been up there with a guide twice the first guide was by far the best I have had anywhere, the second basically was low class and I would never recommend him ever.

One place to start would be the chamber of commerce the other would be search through the web on your own. The one thing is the guide I went through that was terrible was on the chamber site, the other one wasn't and he was excellent. The bad one just put us on community spots that were so crowded you could barely drive into it. Plus the bait store we were at treated you terrible too. I caught more fish going out solo the next day....

We do offer a tag along package and it is set up for fishermen that have their own equipment and arent looking for the fully guided experience. With the tag along package you still get your own guide who fishes with you all day and he will point out many areas that you could try throughout your trip. He will also show you what baits have been working best and the best ways to use them. For more details give me a call or send me an e-mail.

Thanks

I have set up a "tag along" trip with Jeff Dosch for this coming Saturday and if the fishing experience is even close to the great experience I have had so far with Jeff then it will be awesome. Prompt replies to emails, and very nice to talk to on the phone and I cant wait to get fishin.

Something to consider, with a guided trip, the guides take you to where the fish are and chances are thats also where everyone else is going to be fishing so you have to expect crowds. Its the ones who help you to catch the fish that are good. The right baits, the right times, the right presentations etc. You can follow the crowds, as most people do, but that aint gonna guarantee you are gonna catch fish. Id give Jeff a try, he comes highly recommended and theres gotta be a reason for that. It was good enough for me!

See ya on the lake!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
