Neiko
Does anyone know why these are illegal in MN? I have never seen one but saw in the Cuffs & Collars section of Outdoor News it states it is illegal to use in the first paragraph of the 1/7/05 issues. Kidd
I bought one of these bad boys but have yet to use it. I am going to call the DNR and ask if they’re illegal if they are rigged to not set the hook. I have set it up to release the rod but not set the hook and I'm thinking that should make it legal. I have my doubts that I'll get a satisfactory answer from whomever I talk to at the DNR so I may just use it and test the court system if need be.PS. Do a search on Slammer and someone posted the actual DNR rule. What I'm questioning is the interpretation of the rule. It say's you can not have a setup that hooks the fish for you so if I modify this thing to not set the hook I should be able to use it. Heck, I can rig a tip up to set the hook and we all know they’re not illegal.

ZapBranigan
Hmm.. I'm going to have to look futher into this cause Ibought a couple of kits to build my own. They do the same thing a Downrigger would do. A downrigger is not illegal in Mn. So I question that they are illegal. Is there another system that would allow you to open your spool on a reel and trip a flag then allow you to set the hook your self out there? And I would imagine if you did this with this kit then they may be legal. Needs more definition and clarification before I am buying they are totally outlawed.
