Moose-Hunter
Speaking of batterys... Will placing a deep cycle, Vex, or car battery on concrete for any length on time cause it to discharge, die or become unusable in any way?
0 Eric Wettschreck
Moose, I don't know why but if you put a car battery or deep cycle on concrete, yes it will discharge.I don't know why. I'd sure like to know why. I was so curious about this (old wives tale or truth) that I did an experiment at work. It's true. The darn thing will discharge. 0 Creek Kid
Yup, they'll be dead as a door nail in the spring. A piece of plywood or plank is all it takes to save them. Not sure about the "why" part though. I'd be interested in hearing an educated reply about this as well.
0 bj1
fiction.i drag race and am always looking for the best battery and info. supposed to be the old batteries made of wood that would discharge thru concrete not the new batteries.especially now the new technology helps the batteries.if u leave them out to the cold that does drain them on concrete or not.hope this helps some. 0 BK19
partly fiction !!! yes putting a battery on a concrete floor will drain it but it is not because of the concrete it is because the concrete floor is usually cold and the cold is what drains them

0 arbuck
I talked to an Interstate Battery guy and he said it was fiction also. Apperantly back in the day it was true but now it is no longer a problem. He told me the whole story but that was 4-5 years ago and I don't remember the details.arbuck
0 sledhead
Fiction, any battery that sits for any length of time will discharge. Cold is usually the culprit.
0 BigDaddy
Fact- The issue here is not cold, but moisture. Concrete is porous and will always hold some moisture. Also, keep the top of the battery clean for the same reason.Even if you do everything right, a battery will still lose about 1% of its charge per day that it sits. So either hit it monthly with a trickle charge or get a battery tender. I keep ATV and Motorcycle batteries on a tender so they are ready to go when called upon.
