GunDr
Superbee,When are you planning to go to Pipestone? I've stayed with a friend also on Clearwater every New Years for the past ten years. This year we wil be going up on Jan 6 for a couple of days. We've always had our best luck using handmade jig poles with 2oz Northland glow bucktail jigs, tipped with 1/2 of a cisco. All of our fishing is nearer to the shorelines in about 60-80 ft of water. Most of the fish hit the bait on the retrieve up the hole, sometimes 5 ft below the ice!!. This may sound funny, but we actually troll for the trout...through the ice. Because you can fish with two lines, we'll drill a hole, lower the bait to the bottom, then walk parallel to the shore until the bait comes up and hits the bottom of the hole. Back off about 6-10 ft and drill another hole and lower your second bait. Now the trolling takes place. Keep walking back and forth from hole to hole. As one bait drops, the other is rising. The 2 oz bucktail gives enough weight to pull the line back down the hole. The main thing is to keep moving. If you pause, the line will freeze to the edge of the hole. You'll also stay much warmer by keeping your feet moving.Hope this helps,Doug
