Keeping bunny rabbits as pets

beer batter

Question

My wife wants to get a bunny rabbit for the kids this year. How big a cage does a rabbit need? Is 24" x 20" big enough? I'm guessing it would make a better travel cage than a full time home. It will probably be kept in-doors in its cage.

Any things to watch out for with rabbits in general?

Anybody have a little bigger cage they'd like to get rid of for cheap? vikings_numberone_fan (at) yahoo (dot) com.

thanks.

Watch out for little raisin looking things on the floor laugh.gif

That be careful, they scratch.

The 24x20 cage would work out for the short run but I tend to think a bit bigger would be better especially if you keep it in there most of the time.

I realize this may be a little too late, but I just saw this thread. We had a pet rabbit for a couple of years, the kids loved him. We kept him in a 24" by 24" cage when we weren't around. Bought the cage at Fleet Farm. When we were around we let him run around the house, he was (pretty much) litter box trained, that wasn't too hard to do. What we really had to watch out for was WIRES, lamp cords, telephone cords, computer cords. If you let a rabbit run around the house, they WILL chew on wires if they can reach them. We had to tie them up, rearrange furniture, and block off the room with the computer.

We don't have the rabbit anymore, but we still have one cage, let me know if you're interested, it would be cheap.
