umdr6
I have been at school in Duluth for the past four years and this will be my first full winter down in the Cities. What can you advise for good lakes around these parts? (Panfish and Walleyes)
anchor man
You'll soon see on this site that a lot of the metro walleye talk pertains to Prior, Minnetonka, Whitebear, and Bald Eagle. There are penty more, but if you go back to last year's topics you'll see details througout the ice season. Good luck and keep us posted. anchor man

Maximum12
UMDR6, the big lakes listed about can be great. I avoid them in the winter just because of the crowds & villages that crop up. If you're interested in getting off the beaten path, use the DNR Lake Finder to locate smaller lakes (less than 200 acres or so) close to where you live. Less pressure, fewer people, lakes lock up faster (important this year!), & you can generally walk out to good spots without getting your heart rate up too much. There are a lot of hidden little gems in the cities, & some that aren't so hidden like Calhoun, Harriet, Phalen, & Gervais.
slick814
UMDR - All depends on what part of the Metro you're in. There's quality lakes all around, but as an example, I live in Anoka. Usually not heading towards Burnsville or Lakeville to fish . What part of the metro are you in. OH.. and there's the old standby -"Fishing the Twin Cities" book. You can pick it up at Gander, Sportsman's Warehouse, etc... Lots of great info for both ice & open water fishing.Good luck.. and.. Go 'Dogs!!!
