Buy the Knipex bolt cutters $40-42 The cheap ones don't work as well. And $40 is nothing when you are hooked to a 30 pound fish that is trying to go the other way. Spend the money and save your hands.

A good net Beckman or Frabill will go about $110.00 then you will be ready to go.

Good Luck!

Yes the net will be coated with a rubber substance. Some guys to save money even go so far as to buy a regular net and buy the rubber spray on stuff from a hardware store and do there own. My opinion would be to just pony up the money and buy one... Less frustration too I'm guessing... haha :-)

Hiya,

Yeah - Knipex are absolutely the ones to get. Used to buy the cheap $20 ones, and I'd go through a set a season. I've been using the same pair of Knipex for 5 seasons now and they cut like they're new (and I cut hook a lot....) $40 cutters that apparently last forever, or $20 every year - do the math smile.gif Plus they cut 10x better. Can cut a 5/0 one handed. Best thing though is, when you snip off a piece of hook, it doesn't go rocketing off in a random direction at Mach 2 - it just falls into the water. Esox Angler has 'em on sale right now - 10% off till X-mas.

As far as nets go, I'm sold on Frabills. The Power Catch series nets are great... Between the net and the cutters it runs into a little money, but it's an investment, for you and the fish, and if you take care of them, they last a long time. No two more important pieces of equipment as far as I'm concerned...

Cheers,

RK

Besides the Frabil and the hook cutter, you also need to pick up a large mouth spreader and a long Baker hook out. A good long nose pliers a tailing glove and something to measure your fish are also a good idea. smile.gifcool.gif

freighttrain,

the treated bag is what you want. I would recommend the finsaver pen by beckman. small mesh so the fins don't get cut up and a big square bag so you can leave your fish in the water while you get the hooks out. Frabill makes some nice nets also. You can count on spending at least a hundred bucks on a good net.

good fishing!

Gander Mt. in Lakeville has a ton of Beckman finsavers in stock and they are priced really good. I own the BIGGEST one Beckman makes and I love it! they also have the other brands there, but you can't go wrong with Beckman.! Swing on down this weekend if you can, I'm working in the fishing Dept.

later, Scott

freighttrain one other thing I would recomened is a small first aid kit to keep in your boat. Once in a while you'll get them small norhterns that like to flop a lot and put a trebible hook in your hand and that is where the good bolt cutter comes in handy.
