WOW!!! over 40 dollers is too much money for me to buy a call. over 100 dollers is insane. Sorry to say but thats a rip-off, how much money does it really cost to make those calls. Not very much. My friend is the best goose caller iv ever heard and iv heard many people including guides call and he uses a Long honker by Big Game calls that cost 20 bucks. I also called in many ducks this year with my 5 doller Big game duck call and my 7 doller sure-shot duck call. I use the big game for hail calls and the sure shot for a feeding call. I dident even need my spinning wing decoy this year because i was shooting just as many ducks using my call only. Holloween day I called in about every flock of ducks i saw the entire day. Dont overlook a call because its cheap, my 5 doller call has called in countless ducks this fall. I went pass shooting for geese this morning. One flock came close enough and me and my dad both got one. Mine was banded. First banded bird I ever shot! Knocked it down with Heavy Steel talk. I was hunting SW MN.

Went out this afternoon and froze my a$$ off! or should I say my face. The birds were wise and didn't fly until 3 minutes before sunset. We were able to take a stab at a couple of flocks (a little far in my opinion) but we dropped 5. One, I swear, bounced at least 4-5 feet when it hit frozen ground.

I guess I'm glad I slept in this morning.

I will start by saying that I have never hunted in such cold and windy conditions. That wind would not stop blowing. We finished the season off with a 2 man limit of giant honkers. What a way to finish the season. Bring on the ice.

Hunted Roch the past few days here is a report,

Friday hunted with Premier Flight in there East field. We shot 16 birds the birds were fairly responsive to the call and the snow was great. Saturday hunted out East again with a few friends seen lots of birds but had a hard time getting them to decoy well. Killed 3 at 10 yards. Didnt take any other shots. Took Sunday off in the wind storm those who did brave the wind didnt do much. Hunted all day Yesterday with 20 guys and we put 38 in the dirt. Birds were decoying well. We landed some small flocks while trying to call the larger flocks in. This was with the guys from premierflight on their North field. (Hamburger Hill)

What a blast. Tons of birds pretty much moving all day with the colder temps. I bet they are bangin em today.

Well for me it was one of the worst years ever. I hunted 19 days of the season and only shot 13 ducks and 4 geese.

Rooster, aren't you the one that said this? Many of us have killed geese with the long honker, but I tell you it is a whole different world once you go to a short reed. There are sounds that can be made with them that just aren't possible with a flute (at least a BR). Are some of the prices outrageous? Maybe. But when you consider I probably spend $150-200 in gas every weekend and I have $2,000+ in decoys, a $125 call that sounds great isn't so out of line.

I personally have a Heartland Flatliner, a Heartland X-Out and a Wing-Lok Acrylic. I have blown the Grounds Supermag, SMH and Saunders Traffic. My go-to call is my flatliner, which you could find all over the place for $65 last year (and its acrylic). My next call will likely be a Giant Killer as I love the sound of them. The X-out, which is also an acrylic can be found for around $50.00.

Our crew had a good year this year. We had over 100 honks on the ground in early season alone. We had a great season and last saturday we filled out w/ another 21 honks and a speck between 7 guys. Banner year all around.

Yes I did say that, actually i shot 6 geese this year, I got two late season. But the thing is all 6 geese I shot were pass shooting. My friend only went goose hunting with me once this year, and that was early season. We pass shot but he turned many flocks with his call even though we had no decoys. I shot 2 geese, my friend got one but we should have had 3-4 apiece we just dident shoot well. Almost every duck i shot this year I called in with my call, but i also missed allot, and then there were those days when i fired only 3-4 shells and you just dont have the opertunity to call birds in when there arnt any that can hear your call. My friend and two of his buddies did go hunting opening morning and limited out in an hour in the west metro. Called them all in with the long honker. So all 6 geese i shot were pass shooting, we dont use decoys for geese. And considering between me and my dad and my uncle we shot 13 Canada's and one snow pass shooting isent bad. Exspecially since we dident lose a single criple this year. We also could have shot allot more but when you can only shoot a goose apiece a day and the possesion limit is 2 you have to stop hunting geese the first two days your there. We hunted Pheasant opener till the next friday and we had to stop shooting geese that monday because we had our possesion limit. So the rest of the trip i watched geese come into my duck decoys every day. Also where i hunt(the west zone) the season closed before holloween weekend, before any geese had migrated down.
