Hold down snakes

Rick mentioned in the fish-house post about hold-down snakes. How are these made? Maybe using chains, or filling some kind of tube with sand? Do you sew them into the house, or just lay them on when you get to your spot? It seems like a nifty idea I'd like to try.

i made some with bike tubes, cut the valve stem off, close one end with wire and fill with sand, close the other end
