l.o.w crappie's

Recommended Posts

bojangles,

I was up from october 9th through the 13th. Regarding crappies, we did well at O.B. and Thomson. People that we talked to had fished Hay Island and it was just getting going. We did not do well for crappies at Smokehouse. The water was still 51 in the morning and 56 to 58 by every afternoon so I would not expect that the Fall patterns are over yet. On walleyes, we got them on every spot we tried but one and we fished lots of spots. Typical size was 12" to 15" with some bigger ones mixed in. They seemed a little fatter than normal. 25' to 32' worked best for us. Good luck.

We were at our trailer at Mylies through 10-18. Did very well on crappies on the north end on Smokehouse Channel (before The Bottleneck). We did much better on 2" white twister tails than on minnows. We use crappie rigs and I put a tail on each hook. Thompson Creek was also good, but you had to move around a lot to find them. Hay Island was very spotty. Good luck.

dmoore, we were up from Oct. 8-17 and did much better at Thompson Creek than Smokehouse. We also used white twister tails on a crappie rig with a white Gulp minnow on the jig at the bottom. Did get a 24" walleye at Smokehouse but most of our crappie were at Thompson Creek and some at Obabikon. Sunday, Oct. 10 the wind was so strong from the south we anchored at Thompson Creek and got about 20 in a couple hours. We did see boats getting crappie at Smokehouse the day before (you were probably one of them), but we've never done that well there.

we fished 10/24 at thompson creek fishing was outstanding. white/blue fuzzy grub and a frozen shinner was all it took, and for about 2 hours during the middle of the day we didnt need a minnow. not to many people out, except the d.n.r hoping to make one last run before deer hunting.
