What leaders?

I am pretty new to this musky thing and was wondering what leaders you guys use? Single strand, multi strand, flourocarbon or superbraid? Does it matter for what type of lure you are using? Thanks.

Haven't caught one yet but have had two monster follows that scared the k-rap shocked.gif out of me!

In my opinion, it’s traditionally been the norm for people to use a heavy single strand wire leader for jerk baits. I use 7 strand wire leaders from cranks, bucktails and spinners. If the water is very clear, I use fluorocarbon leaders for all lures. I have used titanium

leaders in the past but there has been an issue brought up on this forum about how well they hold-up under load. Although I have never had a problem, I have stopped using them just to be sure. The only time I have gone without a leader has been while using a Slop Master spinning bait…..for whatever reason; it seemed to have the best action.

I don’t think there is a specific correct answer for your question. Its more of a matter of taste…what has worked best for someone may or may not be for you. Give them all a try and decide for yourself. Good luck.

I use singe strand leaders of different size. For bucktails and cranks I use 74lb, for big cranks and jerks I use 124lb. I use high quality ball bearings and a heavy duty split ring to attach the lure. I fish lots a clear water and I do not think that I am getting any fewer fish from using these leaders, also I am much more confident that in the moment of truth that they are not going to fail.

I make them myself and if the leader gets kinked I just tie on a new one. Can reuse the bearings, just tie on a new leader.
