setterguy
Was wondering if anyone would be interested in getting out and doing some grouse hunting on Monday the 1st of November. Don't have a spot picked out yet, so I am open on distance ect. Post here if you're interested.
BDR
I'd like to take that offer but I have to pass. I will be off the whole next week for deer hunting. Next time!!
gspman
I'm interested but I won't know until tonight if I can make it work. Can I let you know tonight or tommorrow morning?
Wild Willie
SetterGuy - I'm very interested in joining you and BDR. Consider me on the injured reserved list. My rehab is coming along and I'm walking without crutches or the brace now. I'm good with leg extension of 0 degrees but still working hard on improving my flexion. Currently I'm at 124 degrees and want to be at 132 by November 1st which will be exactly 7 weeks post-op. I would still have to stay in the easy walking areas i.e. - logging roads or low brush/grass areas. I know Buddy would listen and do well with both you and BDR if you needed to go to heavier cover. I will keep you posted on my progress.
GrouseHunt'R
Are we still penciled in for that day? I have it on my calendar. Would love to see your dog work and let you have a look at how my pup works too.

setterguy
OK - sounds like we have a few guys at least. I will be out of town from tomorrow until Sunday so I won't be able to get at a computer. Anyone is welcome to come, I can fit 4 in my truck, and one more dog. We can hash out some details next week when I get back.
scotty18
Hi guys, I would be interested. I just have to get out of work, which should not be to tough. I haven't been out yet this year, so it would be great! I can drive also, I can fit 3 more and a dog in the back. Let me know. Thanks, Scotty

setterguy
Could we get some conformations and locations of those attending? It will be easier to try and pick a spot that is a little more centerally located. Then we can figure out meeting times and places. I live in Fridley, will be bringing one dog and have space for 3 more guys and one more dog in my insulated kennel.
gspman
I'm in. I'm in Eagan so the drive for me will suck no matter where we meet. Also I have a Chevy Suburban so I could drive as well if we need more than 1 vehicle to transport everyone up there.I would like to bring my pup but we have a problem. She has reverted to flushing birds. If it's possible that I can split off and hunt with her alone for a little bit and you guys don't mind then I'll take her, otherwise I'll leave her at home. I figure the more birds she gets on the sooner she'll come back from the dark side. Let me know. I honestly won't be offended if you guys would rather have me leave her at home.I won't be near a computer Fri and Sat as I'll be hunting the pup on pheasant in Western MN in hopes of her seeing the light and pointing again. I'll check in on Sunday and see where we're at.If you guys have any tips on bringing her around faster I'm all ears. I don't say or do a thing when she flushes a bird, and I certainly won't shoot anything unless she points it, even if she's nowhere near the bird that flushed.Anyways. I'm looking forward to it. See ya Monday.gspman
scotty18
I'm still in. I probably better not have anyone ride with me in case I have to fly back to work. If I may suggest a area, the Mille Lacs wma and Run River state forest. It's closer for everyone and I've had pretty good luck in the past. We could meet in Millaca or at my place in Elk River. Two Brooks wma is right across 169 also. My daughter and I will be going to these areas on sunday, so I can let you know how we do.Scotty
Wild Willie
Setterguy - I can't make it Monday. Got the dreaded physial therapy sessions on M, W & F. Tuesdays and Thursdays are best for me...by middle of November I should be out-of-the-woods. Not completely recovered by any stretch of the imagination but a lot more mobile. gspman
Willie, bummer about the knee. Hopefully you can get some hunting in soon.Guys, I don't care where we go. Just let me know where to meet you and I'll be there.Went to Paul Bunyan State Forest yesterday to take Dixie for a test drive in the grouse woods. She can be a handful at times. She had 3 unproductive points and one flash point and then flush on a grouse. So she's moving in the right direction again.
setterguy
Four Brooks sounds fine, there are some birds in there, they tend to be pretty willey, but I'm always up for a challenge. Why don't we meet at the Perkins in Elk River again? I don't need to get up there real early, I see most of my birds around 9. Should we say Elk River Perkins at around 7:30? Let me know if this works for you guys.
gspman
Sounds good. See everybody at 7:30.
scotty18
Hi guys, I went to the Rum River state forest today. I got a few birds to fly, but I didn't get a shots. I won't shoot unless my dog points them. No points today. I won't make it tommorrow at 7:30. Why don't one of you guys email me your cell# and I'll call when I can leave, about 10 to 11 am. If I don't make it tomorrow, I have 2 weeks left until I close my store. Hopefully we can get together after that. Thanks, Scotty[email protected]
GrouseHunt'R
How did the hunt go? How many went, how many dog and how many birds?
gspman
2 hunters, Gspman and Setterguy. 2 dogs, Setterguy's (you guessed it) setter Kenai, and Gspman's (you guessed it) gsp pup Dixie. We hunted the 4-Brooks WMA for about 3 hours. 2 woodcock flushed, 2 grouse flushed, 1 woodcock bagged by Setterguy. 1 grouse scared by Gspman. Kenai pointed one grouse and my little miscreant pup proceeded to screw things up by roading in on it and the bird flushed. I had a good time and learned a few things from Setterguy. Thanks for putting out the invite Setterguy and again I apologize for Dixie's indiscretion on the grouse. I'm taking her in for some tuning next week so hopefully I'll get her straightened out soon. setterguy
GSPMAN - Don't worry about it, if I only got out once a year we might have a problem . Overall I think it was a good day, didn't have very good dog work, there was little to no wind so scenting conditions weren't ideal. 5 birds moved in three hours, 90 miles from the cities isn't all bad though...I would like to get out again after the gun season. If anybody ever wants to bust some brush, just let me know.
