pegleg
A group of us are going up to Manitoba on a fly in fishing trip in September. I know there is a law of only one case of beer or one liter of alcohol that you can bring in to Canada per person without paying duty. Is there a maximum amount you can bring in if we are willing to pay duty? We are crossing the border late and flying out very early so there is no opportunity to buy any Canadain goods. Thanks in advance for the info.
Muskydanno
Not sure if there is a max but i can tell you that we routinely go through with six cases or slightly more for our annual trip so there may not be a limit within reason. I guess paying the duty is a better alternative to buying Labatts over the border. On a week trip one case just isn't enough for an after fishing cocktail or two each night! 1tofish
It almost dosen't pay to bring extra across the border. We had an extra liter of Captin and it was $15.00 duty. Could have bought that extra liter in Canada and came out ahead. If your in a bind for time you might be paying for it. Call ahead to where you are flying out of and see if they can pick up the extra supplies. Just a thought.
pegleg
Thanks for the replies... I have not gone up there for a while and in the past we used to take a fair amount across and just pay duty. I have now heard there is a limit on what you can take but nobody seems to know what that limit is.The fly out service didn't sound that willing to go and buy our supplies for us. Big G
I would look for a new fly-in service. The outfitter I've used in the past would purchase our alcohol and fly it in ahead of time with no extra charge. We just reimbursed him for the cost of the alcohol.......... HuntElk
Pegleg, how many times have i told you, there is no limit in Manitoba. I have called and talked to the border patroll twice and he said in Manitoba you can bring what you want, you just have to pay duty on it. I told him we had 6 guys and we wanted to bring in 25 to 30 cases of beer and about 8 liters of booze and they said it is ok. They said if you have that much of a drinking problem then go ahead and "gunner!"I did ask him where they drew the line and he said if they feel you you have more than you can possibly consume in the timeframe you will be in there country, they will not let you take it in. They feel you will be selling it on a black market or something, which makes sense. I have to say one thing about the K-nucks...They know how to protect their country. We could maybe learn a thing or two about protecting our borders...
foods
i think the trick is to pay duty on the beer cause they use some sort of percentage of what you pay for it in the states.-fho
Hemlock
I'm sorry I don't know the exact numbers, but when I called Canada Customs a couple weeks ago, it was certainly cheaper in Canada, than to pay duty on it...maybe it changes with a high volume.------------------Hemlock"Throw'm back"
fishyguy
We were at the border a couple weeks ago and talked with the people at the duty free store about the best way to do things. She said if its beer you want by it here and pay the duty. If its hard liquor bring your limit (1 liter) each and buy the extra in Canada.
