rascalP
I've been real curious of this lake for the smallies. Anyone out there with some good info on them? How bout the muskies? Sounds like a great lake summer and winter. A buddy did a ice fishing trip through Thorne Bros. for lakers --- sounded like a great trip. Lakers on Crow and crappies on Saboskong Bay. What a combo! Anyway, he told me guy's are coming up from MO and IA for the smallies. Thanks for any info. rascal
WallEYES
Go to the north end of the lake in Emms Bay, fish the steep bank/rock ledge areas. Have had really good results vertically jigging sonars or other blade baits
rangerguy
If you are wondering about the smally fishing on crow, check out the fishing report at www.muskiebayresort.com Paul the owner puts up a report every couple of weeks. Hey TECK, that must be you Tom. This is Matt, Luke's buddy. We renamed that rock reef that you hit last after you and some of the guys were actually looking for your prop when the water was calm. Sorry about missing the muskies inc trip this year, heard you and paul each got a 51.5" this year. I also heard you got four or five others and I bet I know exactly where you got them. Luke and I are going up there around labor day if you are interested in meeting us up there.
TECK
Ya it was a good trip. I got 5 over 40". With the largest being 51.5"
steve schmidt
Hey Walleyes.....I didnt vertical jig last year but saw others and heard some that caught fish that way. Can you tell me the technique...like, do you drop your lure right in the fish. Honestly, I am a novice. One reply either here or on another site said to use buzz bombs and zingers. I went on Cabelas and they are backordered. My luck. But, the spoons I did buy should work. Do you put anything on the spoon or fish em like "naked"
jerkin'm
Just rip a heddon sonar or equivalent "naked" it is a no brainer. Look for fish on your graph before you start fishing. Just got back from crow, our best day was 10 trout. I tried everything, but the sonar in yellow/green was the best bait. Buy a Marcum LX3 before you go(if you don't have one) and watch them hit and follow your bait in the deep water, it is a blast. The 100 foot range was about the best depth. WallEYES
Steve S ... I will vertically jig when I am on fish. I use the pink/white sonars or I do use buzz bombs "naked". I ususally fish against steep break walls and pick all the agressive fish and then troll over these areas with spoons or minnow type baits for any other takers. Usually I'll fish in 100 feet or less. Have fun...If you can't get any buzz bombs here, when in Nestor Falls go to either the Nestor falls bait and tackle before coming into town or Anglers Paradise in the Sunset strip mall across from the Lawg Cabin Resturant. They have plenty of them.
Kingfisher
jerkin'm, you really did well on Crow, what was the size range?
jerkin'm
The biggest fish was around 6 pounds or so and the average was probably 4. The bite was a little tougher for others from what I heard and saw around camp. We even got a double while jigging. Pretty cool.

steve schmidt
Just returned from 5 days on Crow Lake. Fishing was good for trout and smallies. Even caught a 42 inch musky while trout fishing. Released it....by the way...how much does a 42 " musky weigh. ???15 to 20 pounds?Caught lots of lakers....one over 10 pounds, several 6-8 and most 2-4. This is my second year at this and I am hooked.Being a novice, a fish hit as I was lowering my downrigger and I got so excited I forgot to stop the downrigger. Now I am less one ball and 100' of cable. Lucky I had two "sport trollers" along.Saw some "jerk fishers" and they did catch some fish. Wanted to do more of that, but the only day it was real calm was the day we left. Booked again for next year.
fishanytime
What baits worked for you? Going to Whitefish Bay next week to fish lakers.
steve schmidt
Used spoons exclusively....one called Lady SLipper which has rainbow trout colors with dots and an eye, caught 90% of the fish. It was either 4 or 5 inches long. That caught the 42" musky as well. Our other boat had a spoon with a greenish hue that produced good as well. Fish were at 80-100 feet. in depths of 110 to 140 feet. Mornings till about 1:00 seemed the best....late afternoon was slow....so we went back for "cocktail hour".If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. steve schmidt
Oh, crawlers caught the smallies. Our other boat fished for them and did well. 18-24 feet of water
