MBurke
Hello, I have gotten out my fish trap shelters, 1 guide and 1 Pro The inside of the tents are all sticky and greasey feeling. If I rub my hands on it the polyurathane will just rub of on my hands.....its a real mess. They are some older ones with "Ice Armor" on the tent. I was shocked when one of them was that way..but then they were both like that. I have had fish traps for severel yrs ( not these ) and have never had anything like this happen.... I just had these out last year and they were fine. I store them in a heated dry basement..like I always have for the last 5 yrs. Has anyone else had this happen to there tents ? mtwalleye1529315212
I have a Yukon that has been doing the same thing for the last few years. Not sure if anything can be done to remove it.
SDS
I have a 4 year old Yukon and a 2 year old Six-Pack and neither of my Clams are greasy.
MBurke
I tried cleaning a small area, but did not work. My rag was covered with blue gunk and the tent was just as sticky and greasy feeling. I couldn't imagine cleaning the whole tent.... I contacted Clam Corp about this...even sent photos...so we will see what happens. They are a few years old but they should do this. None of my other traps over the years have did anything like this. Its the polyurathane coating that is breaking down...
Corey Bechtold
I haven't had any issues with mine. I'm curious on what Clam will do for you so keep us posted on what happens once they get back to you. Good fishing, Corey Bechtold
Esox_Magnum
Mines not greasy, but the black on the inside is peeling/flaking off... Pretty dissapointed about this as it dont get used alot and is taken care of....
muskie hunter
I had this happen to a 20 year old snow boat so I just got a new shack you guys could buy a new tarp and that one won't be greasy but get the thermal because there is no condensation. And I think it is the canvas breaking down and falling apart.
MBurke
Clam Corp must me swamped Got one email form them Tuesday Jan.7th asking a couple questions I replied and haven't heard anything since. I offerd to send it in so they could look at it. I went ahead and removed it beings it was no good the way it is. Just about pulled the trigger and bought a new tent...I probably will have to anyway....but thought I would give them a couple more days. I even tried to call a couple times today bit didn't get through..... Still waiting.....
mtwalleye1529315212
Keep us posted MBurke. Mine is getting worse. The blue junk is getting on seats, windows and cloths. I would buy a new tent for my Yukon if Clam made a thermal cover for it. It only comes with a thermal top. I need a house that fits in the back of a Ford Crew Cab. Looking at moving to an Otter. He is looking into it, has seen this post, and is doing all he can at this point. In the mean time...I did order another tent for my guide and Mike said he would do all he can to get it out the door to me.

MBurke
Just an update on clam service. I received my Guide tent today and have it installed already....fits perfect. Just so you know.....I did buy the replacement tent.... Clam did not replace it at no cost. I do hope they find out what is going on with some of the tents...the sticky break down of the inside coating. I have another Fish Trap Pro that needs replaced. I did offer to send my old one to them so they could look at it. Till I hear from them I'll let this ride. Mike
CrewJones
I have the same problem on mine, black peeling off, I keep it in my heated garage and take extreme caution on using it. I was going to call and see if I can get a new cover or a thermal cover. Im sure they won't do anything for me, mine is a couple years old, and everyone is like this so if they would be helping everyone out they would probably go out of business. TJS
I have a voyager TCX within the first year the black part was peeling off the tent. I sent a couple emails to clam about this issue along with pictures, it took a while before I had any response from them i'm sure they are very busy. After it was all said and done they replaced the tent at no cost to me. Clam knows that there is a problem with the material that was used in these covers so they should stand behind them. fishing tech
The last 2 time I have dealt with clam it has taken 5 days or longer for them to return my call. They lost my order, then 2 weeks later called and no longer had in stock what I ordered. If they are that busy they need to hire more people or competent people. I like their products but will start checking out my options a little more.
TJS
Has anyone else had problems with the black inside peeling or flaking off? Like I stated earlier I did get a replacement for mine and now after 3 trips on the ice this one is doing the same thing.
westguy
Used mine 3 times and I take really good care of it and it looks like it is 30 years old with all the black stuff coming off has left many holes on the inside I was told that is normal?
TJS
My question is, why if this is normal would they put that material on the inside if it's just going to come off? I dry my shelter after every trip so if this is normal I don't get it. I have contacted them again about this issue and have not had a reply yet. muskie hunter
My clam kenai had the same problem I warrantied it and recievied a new canvas with the new clam sysmbol vs the origninal tarp had the fish symbol sold it to my buddy for a 100 dollars and got the legend thermal because there is no spray and is just better in every aspect. Clam had said as well that sometimes that the spray does not dry properly long egough then it doesn't hold on. Also he fishes a lot and the times he has been with me I looked at it and he has had no black spray wear problems strangely. But call customer service get on them and warranty it and I'm sure they will help you out and take care of you. Or I heard that liquid electrical tape can fix it and holds on better. TJS
For me this is my second cover that has done this. The original one and now the replacement. The warranty cover made it three trips before it started peeling and flaking. I have contacted the company and am still waiting to hear back on this. It's just very disappointing.
