Clam Kenai or Scout EXP

I was originally going to purchase an EXP, but decided to upgrade to the Legend Thermal after sitting in it and seeing/drooling over its features. However, some of the main reasons I wanted the EXP was its thermal top, expanded fishing area and more comfortable seat than the Kenai. I put together the BigMouth from last year and the EXP is newer version of it. It's easy to put together and light enough to pull across the ice without any problem. When fishing for many hours, it's nice to have a seat with a comfortable back rest to lean against. I would go with the EXP for a great one man fish trap.

Looking to purchase a new one man for first ice, something light to pull by hand. Has anyone have any experince yet on either of these two houses?

Thanks

I bought the Kenai the first year it came out. it is a nice house but being non thermal it does sweat inside when you have the heater on. the one plus for the Kenai is that you could pull it with a ATV or Snowmobile in you wanted too since it has higher sides then the Scouts have . this year I got one of the Scout EXP's and decided to sell the Kenai. the Scout EXP is also a nice house. the only down side to it is that it has less head room then the Kenai did. the plus for it is that it has the thermal top and the expandable floor poll. If you can spend the extra money I would recommend you also look at the Clam Legend. it is full thermal and uses the same sled as the Scout's. the Scouts come off the short side of the sled (the end) and the Legend comes off the long side of the sled. plus the head room in the Legend is even more then in the Kenai.

any one of the three would be a good choice for you.

The Legend is only 20 lbs heavier then the Scout EXP or Kenai. the added weigh is because of the better seat and the extra material and the fact that it is full thermal. lifting it is not that bad if you set you gear out of it before lifting it into your truck then set your gear back in once loaded. I had no problem lifting mine into the back of my Tahoe. I haven't tried to hand pull it yet, I was more less thinking I would start using my Legend once we can drive on the lakes. this doesn't mean you can't hand pull the Legend, it's simply means that I don't want too. the overall size of the Legend is amazing and almost like a man and a half house.

Both are nice, but I would strongly urge you to look at the Legend X1 Thermal....just got mine this year, and after having several Clam houses, this one is tops in my book.

Steve

to me the X1 is nice but the height inside is only 59 inches. it is also 76 lbs so it is getting up there for hand pulling. now if pulling by machine then yes it would be nice. it is also the most expensive one man in the Clam product line but it also has the 900 denier fabric and the 1 1/4 poles.

EXP hands down. If your walking you want the easiest. No you can't stand up but you step outside and stretch, seat is comfortable, smaller area to heat=smaller heater, less fuel. I also was leaning towards simple, no poles to extend. After pulling my buddy's scout one day I was sold. I got the EXP for the extra fishing room. I'd say its just right amount of personal space.

I have a kenai and instead of putting the pad they send with it on i put a nice cushioned swivel boat seat on...it is very light to pull around and can fit it in the back of my mountaineer. Downside is it does get condensation on the roof but it gets nice and toasty in it with a little buddy heater.

Just purchased and set up a Clam Legend Thermal, can't wait to get out when it's a little warmer. It's 67 " center height, 70 lbs. and 16 sq.ft. fishable area. I've pulled the Voyager and Yukon and this should be much easier!

I went with the Scout EXP this year, I really like how lightweight the unit is. I really like the Legend Thermal and if I find I want the extra head room I will go with that for next year, but for now I am really liking the scout, the expandable front is nice: To me the thermal cap is the reason I went with the Scout EXP over the Kenai:

You really can't go wrong with whatever you feel is the best fit for you.T
