cwalls
Can't get the chuck screw to fit threw the shaft to attach it to my drill,it seems the screw is slightly bigger then the hole.Any suggestions on what I can do ?
amateurfishing
do you have a 2nd drill you can try? I used a 20V dewalt drill, had lots of issues getting the screw out, but after that had no problem with replacement screw going back in through conversion kit. cwalls
NO I don't ,the drill I'm using is a Dwalt 18v.I'm wondering if I can drill it out just a bit to make it fit'
Coryy
Does the shaft screw properly into your chuck on the drill? Make sure that it screws in without any issues and binding. If there is no issue with that then what I would do is call customer service at Clam at 763-231-4120 I would clear it with them prior to doing any drilling as not to void your warranty. If you do have to drill it our make sure you clamp it properly and so slowly and use a good drilling oil. You want to make sure you don't bind. How far is it off? You might be able to run a rat-tail file in it if you are just a few thousandths off.
ready2fish
you talking about the screw you take out so you're able to remove the drill chuck and this will not go thru the the clam motor shaft? Or the clam motor shaft that comes with the Clam conversion plate will not screw on your drill arbor shaft?
cwalls
the screw that goes back into the drill chuck that hold the shaft, won't go threw clam shaft
Coryy
Quote: the screw that goes back into the drill chuck that hold the shaft, won't go threw clam shaft I understand the issue. I was just asking if the shaft screwed into the drill properly? If so then I would drill or ream the hole out enough to get the screw to work properly. I mentioned calling customer service just as a precaution so you don't have warranty issues.I am going to check my Dewalt later today and see if I have the same issue. If you do ream or drill out the shaft take your time and go slow. I believe it is stainless steel and this can be difficult to drill and ream. If its close just drill it out, shouldn't be an issue, to be safe call C.S. Hopefully you have another drill to do this

S. Thompson
I've discovered that the Clam motor shaft that threads onto the drill does not fit all drills. I have a Craftsman Pro Cordless 18v drill that I was planning using instead of my Dewalt 20v Max drill. The chuck/drill shaft on the Craftsman 18v is a smaller diameter than the Clam motor shaft. Not everyone has two drills at their disposal, and I know it's almost impossible for Clam to make a motor shaft that fits all drills, but might be something that needs to be looked into further. Maybe offer a conversion kits that fits these brand drills and a conversion kit that fits the other brand of drills. Great product idea and looking forward to using mine on the ice. cwalls
Clam customer service emailed me and said they would send me some different screws to try, said they would work with me to resolve my issue.
cwalls
I THINK THEY SHOULD PUT OUT A LIST OF DRILL THAT WILL WORK.
aanderud
When you sell a universal kit, IMHO it should come with several size bolts/screws. Sort of like when you buy a replacement head for a weed trimmer, they come with like 5 bolts and nuts, with various spacers and adapters, so they'll fit everything. You'd think the extensive beta testing would have revealed something this trivial, but what do I know.

Hate to say it, but the screw you have is the same size as any other screw with the same threads. 1/4"X 28 is the same dimension anywhere. How much are you off? I would just drill it out slightly to accommodate the screw
cwalls
I THINK THIS A GOOD PRODUCT JUST NEEDS SOME TWEEKING MAYBE IF THEY GET ENOUGH COMPLANTS AND IDEAS THEY'LL CHANGE SOMETHINGS.
cwalls
My problem has been fixed,I took a small file and filed the hole until my arms were about to fall off it finally FIT Thanks for the help !! Matt Johnson
Glad you got it worked out! The tough part about trying to make an item universal is that there will always be that small percent of drills that have issues (maybe a certain year/version or off-brand, etc). However, with a slight modification you can get literally just about every drill to work/fit. Looks like you figured out the niche adjustment for yours! All of this feedback is very appreciated though, as you can bet the team at Clam is taking notes on everything they read here and if improvements can be made they will do what they can to accommodate those ideas. Keep the ideas and constructive comments coming!
amateurfishing
fyi....I purchased the entire auger assembly unit, 4 holes in this am blades started bouncing everywhere, I notice 1 blade was halfway off then realized I had already lost a screw, b4 using for first time, double check your screws to make sure they are tight on your blades, I did not check mine out of box & now cannot use till get more screws
Steve@CLAM
Amateurfishing, you're right. Always good with any new auger to check the screws to be sure they're on tight. We (CLAM and all auger manufacturers) should get it to you tight and ready to go, but regardless of the brand I've always checked them. In any case, you know we'll take care of you. Shoot an email over to cs and we can get some out to you right away or you can stop by to pick them up on Monday.
hcs
Can a 10" auger blade be used if all you plan to do is drill 8-10 holes a day and re-open existing holes? Has anyone tried an auger larger than 6"?
Savage Brewer
Seen guys do8" on video. Heard from the guys at clam there are people that will be trying 10" this year. I dont know about reopening holes I would think an ION with chipper blade might be better choice.
Coryy
I agree with the Brewmiester. I don't know about opening old holes with the auger no matter what size. There is too much that could go wrong with no matter what auger and I would hate to see you ruin a good set of blades while trying to go through harder ice that could have some issues from the person before you. Just my
fishwater
I THINK THEY SHOULD PUT OUT A LIST OF DRILL THAT WILL WORK. A list of workable drills would be a super idea. I tried to setup a Bosch 36 Volt Drill (38636-01 ), it's way too big to work with the auger plate parts available. I'll need a much taller vertical bracket, possibly even a pair of them, maybe a modified trigger? This could be a sweet pairing.
Fowlmouth
Clam makes great products, but the idea of using a conversion kit to use a power drill to drill holes? Nah, bad idea. Just return it and buy a power auger. The new clam auger looks nice or you can never go wrong with a strikemaster.
