NEW Clam Maki Plastics

Recommended Posts

Clam Outdoors has partnered with Maki Plastics to put out an amazing line-up of plastics for this ice fishing season! Everything the ice angler could want, and in the best styles and most popular/productive colors. Color options include Glow, Glow Pink, Glow Chartreuse, Red, Motoroil and Purple.

I'm an obsessed plastics user under the ice and I'm extremely excited about this new line-up! Check these out...

Maki

We think of it as a 5-legged water spider. Like independent tentacles, they wash with the most subtle currents and movements. Undulate in a fish’s face and beg to be sucked in. Lots of customizing potential. Try nipping off the head and using half the ‘head’ with its remaining 3 legs. Play with it, to match the hatch and whims of the fish.

Draggi

With two wings and a dragon’s tail, the Draggi is an amazing flutter and swim bait. Swims downward as it sinks, paddles flapping. Amazing when fish are hitting on the drop, or apt to swim up and meet food items as they’re slowly falling. The dragon’s tail has a mind of its own, often dancing back and forth or swimming behind the wings.

Jamei

Brainchild of CLAM pro James Vladyka, the Jamei is a bug and shrimp imitator. “Thread the hook through main body,” he says, “toward the twin tails. Make sure it’s on there straight. Slide it all the way on, so it fishes horizontally, or put it on the hook only far enough that the twin tails face upward. This gives amazing action.” As with many plastics, a dab of super glue holds it in place and lets you fish harder with less time spent adjusting things.

Polli

Another deceptively simple creation, the Polli produces almost random, whip-tail movements when paired with any of our tungsten Drop jigs. Best rigged by nip-hooking either end. We most often hook it in the larger head. Sometimes you have to fish small to catch big. The Polli shines under tough conditions: cold front, heavy fishing pressure, lots of sniffers. Stands up to close study. Never stops moving. Forces fish to sample it.

Spiiki

Simple as a screwdriver, but deadly and versatile. Nip hook or thread it on. Fish it horizontally or curl it into the hook shank on a vertical jig for an ‘upward’ orientation. Trim it and it becomes an awesome little whip tail. Pound it on the bottom, so it looks like a blood worm coming out. Float it upward, making it twitch and swim. Just make sure you have a good grip on your rod.Natural Blood Worm Acton. Great whip bait when Jigged & Twitched. Incredible action that cannot be stopped.

I absolutely can't wait to give these a try! I fish for Walleye, Crappie and Lake trout through the ice. All of these baits will be an effective option this coming ice season to put more and especially those finicky fish on the ice. Great Job Clam!!! lets Bring it!

I can attest to how well Makiplastics work in South Dakota waters. I picked up several varieties and colors from Scott and his son last winter when they were out here for Ice University. The perch went nuts over the Jamei, Scudi, Rocki and Shrimpi.

Looking back now, I should have bought a lot more varieties last winter. I can't wait to hit the ice again this year armed with Makiplastic's.

So did Clam "buy out" Maki Plastics--I know that their HSOforum is no longer in operation. Will they be offering any more types of plastics than the ones mentioned above. I ask this because I know that Maki Plastics makes many more different kinds than just the ones mentioned above.

No Clam didn't buy them out. they partnered together. The founder of Maki is part of the Ice Team so this partnership almost seems natural.

are you sure you put in the right web address. I just did a search and found their site.

No, Clam did not buy out Maki. Maki owner, Scott Brauer, is a longtime Ice Team/Clam supporter and actually one of the Ice Team Pros. When Clam sat down to develop a line of tackle they knew plastics needed to be a big part of the equation and Scott/Maki makes the best on the market. Working with Scott was a no-brainer and Clam/Maki partnered to produce the best options for the ice angler.

Like most of you, I've used a pile of different ice plastics, but I always find myself turning to Maki as my go-to. This was the same response we received when paneling all of the Ice Team Pros and soon-after the partnership with Maki formed.

There will be some creative and exciting additions to the Clam/Maki lineup in future years as well... the wheels are already turning!! smile

I have to say that I have used alot of different plastics from many different companies over the past years and after using the Maki line up for a little while I have found my calling. You cant go wrong with hand poured and the action that these give out is absolutely amazing along with a strong scent. This is no joke. I use to be all about impulse and my mind changed in an instant.
