bassinboy3
I am looking ahead to ice fishing and I have humminbird units on my boat and was curious if anybody has or knows a good way to mount a 998 in a vehicle, Its not internal so the puck needs to be placed somewhere. Just trying to get ideas! Thanks.
TruthWalleyes
I just the unit and gps on the dash. You could ram mount if you want it to be stable. I use a vex 9ah battery to power the bird.
bassinboy3
So you just set the puck up on the dash and got good signal and everything? How did you hook the power chord up to the battery with gator clips?
TruthWalleyes
Yep. Has no problem getting signal when on the dash. Gator clips will work. I just left the bracket/ram ball on the unit so when it sits on the dash i can adjust the angle of the screen by adjusting the bracket/ram ball. Before the ice is truck travel ready i attach my HBird to my otter sled with a ram mount, screwed the puck to the sled.

TruthWalleyes
Make sure you scan some of your favorite ice fishing lakes and save the screenshots. It is nice when you can walk/drive exactly to a specific area of a rock pile, or other small structure (Spot on the spot) in the winter. Chris Granrud
Awesome. I am looking to mount one of my internal antenna Humminbirds on my Bearcats. Anyone with experience here? They have kind of funny spots on the center handle bars. Anyone have a close up mount pic?? Thanks men!! Never too early for "Cool Thoughts". FisH_SLaYer24
Chris, Not sure how the handle bar configuration is on the Bearcats, but the Humminbird ATV Ram mount kit might be what you're looking for. It handles Humminbird units up to the 700 series and it secures your unit tightly to the metal bar..
Brad B
Chris, check the ram mount HSOforum. they have different mounts that allow you to mount a finder to a handle bar. another option would be to use the normal mount and mount it someplace other than the handle bars( IE : the dash) meet up with Genz and check his Bearcat out. he would be the one to talk to.
