Jason Hamilton
Had a great on the ice (slush) on the sheild lakes of Sunset Country. On the ice early and had consistent action from dawn til dark. The key was moving around all the time. Towed the Nanook but let the Ice Armor take care of things today, as there was a constant need to try new water. The mouths of shallow bays and other flats produced all our fish today. We caught between 20 and 60' on hardbaits and white tubes. Lakers are built for icefishing, they are monsters when hooked! Drags screaming...can't beat it! Tune into my audio reports on www.iceteam.com to hear how the early trout bite progresses.

Wanderer1582813680
Beware Aaron, if you do get bit by the laker bug, you'll be done ice fishing anything else! Nice fish and nice pics, Jason. I'll have to check out the audio.
Jason Hamilton
You got that right! Lakers live in cool places, and are quite possibly the most fun you can have on the hardwater.
Jim Hudson
Totally jealous! I live to chase these fish. Lakers RULE! But, am glad I can catch a few browns and splake until the Lake Trout country around me freezes over. Good job!
adt187
By shallow bays and flats how shallow are we talking? Any other stucture produce fish? Heading out tomorrow. The Lake isn't mapped so it makes it a bit tricky.
Jason Hamilton
Think pike bays, then start fishing in between the points of the mouth of the bay, or flats off of structure 20-60 feet, lakers will cruise so drill around looking for fish on the Vex and call them in with loud baits. Look above the ice for clues below, points are obvious but also try between 2 islands of the mainland and an island. These are often shallower saddles. Cliff faces or very steep shorelines are places trout corral bait against. Good luck tomorrow.

adt187
Thanks, I caught this one in 110 FOW on the bottom of a steep bank. I am going to hit a shallower lake next weekend and try some saddles off the islands.
