JordyED
I was wondering if anyone had any leads on where I could still find the old style Genz Stix, I believe they were made by nature vision back then. I just lost mine down the hole the other day after looking away for literally a couple seconds. Wasn't my best or most expesive rod by any means, but I just loved that little thing! Loved the handle! I am looking for the Med.Lt. 27" even if anyone has one for sale I am interested. Thanks for any help. I found one HSOforum selling a 3 pack, but I looked into the company, and they seem to be a scam. I'm also following a "down by the bay" online auction. aaron otto
I have a couple from Berkly.... not sure if that is the same version you're thinking?
Charlie Mason
The Berkley Genz Lightning Rods are not the same as the "stix" that Nature Vision came out with, the LR I have left are three 26" mediums, and 3 of the 36" MH, will not, would not trade them for anything, way ahead of their time for a mass produced rod. Never did pick up any of the stix though, just a couple of years ago they were blowing them out on hsolist really cheap, most of them are probably gone by now
Craig Oyler
Just the other day I found some Genz Sticks in a small outdoors store in Pierre SD. They had 23"ers and 16"ers. I am working there during the weeks, and can take a closer look at them if you want me to. Aaron, are you interested in selling your Berkley Genz rods? JordyED
Yes, the Berkley rods are not the ones I am talking about, however, it does sound like they conjure up the same type of fellings I had for my Genz Stix from Nature Vision. Charlie, Great way to describe this class of rods, "Way ahead of their time." You hit it on the head there. I am just sick about losing that rod down the hole. Who would have thought I would have this difficult of a time parting with a $15 combo. Thanks for the info guys. I'll check the HSO List and see if there is anything in there. Other than that, I guess i'll have to just keep my eyes open or just come to terms with my mistake! Can you sense the sadness???
drcarplove
I believe Thorne brothers built the first solid graphite ice rod. Then others followed like the genz sticks. I have 24 inch nature vision and I really like it, but i also really like the st croix 24 inch non spring bobber rods just as well and I still have 2 26 inch Thorne bros sweetheart panfish rods also really good rods. I change my grip on all the rods throughout the day to ease stress on my 60+ year old hands wrist and elbows. I may not be as picky perhaps good luck with your search. JuanArellano
you are only half right, Dave would go to Trails end bass pro shop, and buy broken blanks. He built and rod out of one for the broke off blanks and that's how the trend came to be... he called them " Long rods built in miniature". Shortly after that Dave brought the rod he made in the Thorne bro's, and showed it the Paul. At that time Thorne Bro's was only making rods like Muskie rods, and fly rods. After that the Thorne ice rod was introduced.

JordyED
drcarp, I have a couple TB rods and don't get me wrong, I really like them. However, there was something about this particular rod I just really liked. I don't know what it was between the action, the backbone, the lenth, or the handle, but it worked well as a whole. Not to mention I've had it for basically my entire ice fishing career. AO, How much are you asking? Do you have the 27" ML Genz Stix by Nature Vision? I would definitly be interested in taking it off your hands if you are willing to part with it.

Yep, the original Genz Lightning rods were pretty nice for the price. I still have 4 that must be about 10 years old & I still use them. JordyED
I was looking for the Nature Vision brand, but have submitted to the fact I may need to seek out the next best thing. I have a feeling the Berkley brand is it. I will be more than interested in taking it off your hands. However, I wouldn't want to take it away from any up and coming ice angler. I also, wouldn't feel right getting it for nothing. We can maybe do some dicussing over PM. You are a generous man, ao, a very generous man. Mr.Seaguar
Aaron otto, thats great. It is better to give than receive. I have a Berkley Genz rod that I bought when I broke a TB and needed another short rod asap. Its awesome. Its a shame these things never really caught on. I think they are better than anything mass produced today, let alone back when they came out.
aaron otto
JordyED just send me an email [email protected] - I have two of them. It's really okay. I'm happy to send this one to you- nothing expected. Hudson has the other one already so won't be taking anything from him at all. Mailing address etc to the email above and a promise to report on the first fish you nail with it . Sincerely, ao
Scott M
Jordy, I have one of the Nature Vision rods, but it's a UL. It actually seems more like a M though. That's actually how I use it, as a perch or walleye rod and not as a panfish UL. The reels they packaged these with were junk; the original caused rat's nests like crazy, I complained and Nature Vision sent the same reel and I had the same problem. Then I threw a different reel of my own on it and it was fine. Decent rod for the price but wouldn't buy it as a combo if I went in the time machine. It's not a medium, but if you gotta have it, send me a PM.
aaron otto
Just checking -Did you ever get the rod?
Jim Kusuda
I have a Genz Stix which may be the type which you describe, but there is no rating of ML on it. It seems to be that action. I tried to PM you but received this message: JordyED is over their Private Topic limit. Let me know if you would like to see pics.
aaron otto
Jordy just had a new boy, I think that is why he's been absent. New dad- lots to do! He sent me an email confirming the rod received and birth of his brand new angler!
Jim Kusuda
That's fantastic! What a happy time.
klee
I've looked all over the net for one of those but they don't have them anymore. I've only found the one with the gold reel which cost more. Nice rod for the price when it came out. Jim, yours look like it's in condition.
JordyED
Sorry Jim, AO is correct I just recently had my first baby boy. WHAT A LIFE CHANGER!!! Could not be happier, but yes some things have taken a backseat this week. I am slowly starting to get back to my "hobbies". I am not sure why my inbox would say I am over my quota; I tried to PM you and the same message popped up on my end. Anyway, that is the exact Rod I am talking about. That is the one I lost, with the crappie sticker on it. Loved that thing!!!!
