john79
I have a older clam fish trap Yukon maybe 8to10 years old. The last couple of years the Blue die is coming off and making my hands blue when I open and close it on the inside of the fish trap. I am wondering if there is something I can do to stop the die from making my hands blue. It is almost to the point that I don't want to use it any more. Please let me know if you can help please. Kevan Paul
Call clam and see if they have a cover that will fit your shelter. Maybe you could upgrade to a Thermal.
buckeyes08
I upgraded to a Thermal cover for mine last year. As the mice found it stored in my shed out back so now stored in garage. I like the upgrade don't get as wet like before is a plus.
john79
I guess that is a way I could go. But to keep things on the cheaper side I was hoping for a few good ideas. So I could keep the one I have going since there's no tairs on it.
silverbulletguy
Maybe try a scotchgard spray? Or something like that?
ski_otter
I've heard of some people spraying a sealant made for waterproofing camping tents on their shacks. I wonder if that would seal it in?
john79
Thanks, I will look into this. Has anyone ever took the canvas off to run it through a wash? I thought I do this a few times it might work?

Jon Chapman
It should seal up the fabric and still allow it to breathe...
polarsusd81
John, I would maybe recommend shooting an email to Clam corp customer service at [email protected] to see if they have any recommendations. I have an old guide and a newer Scout, along with having had a couple others along the way and never had any issue with the blue die coming off. Wonder if maybe there was an issue with how it was stored that maybe caused some dry rot in the cover material. Is it more like a blue dust that is coming off or is the actual dye from the fabric coming out? You said it was 8-10 years old. My old guide is going on 15 years now and the fabric is still in great shape (except for the burn hole in the corner from a lantern incident). Surface Tension
Never heard of the die coming off but yes the fabric can deteriorate with age and come off like a chalky dust. I know the fabric on a clam of that vintage you get the combo of a shelter and a trip to the planetarium all at once. The Camp dry might have some stabilizing effect and will at least waterproof it. leech~~
If you have been storing it out side in the sun it maybe getting UV aging. If you do use the camp spray or anything else you may want to do it now ASAP before you want to use it, to air it out or deal with the smell for a while! john79
The cover overall is in like new condition at most may look slightly used. I take very good care of my stuff. On the off season it goes in the basement wich is a unfinished but very clean. Inside the canvas it's feels sticky and like I said almost unavailable I will get blue die on my knuckles opening it up. It is hard to get it off so I think it is die and not dust. I did try to contact clam but no response so I came on here hoping for the best. But I didn't call them since its old and think that they would be more helpful if was newer. But I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem? chris631529315256
Certain boat cover fabrics have been known to "run dye"as well.I don't know what can be be done.Maybe if you were to get in touch with a canvas or cover repair shop they could give the fabric manufactures advice on running dye.First figure out the fabric type.Poly, cotton,????I'm not sure what clam used 8 years ago. It's possible it's the same as today.Let us know what you figure out!c63
