This weekend in the Waubay area

Recommended Posts

A few of us are planning a trip this weekend for some good perch fishing. The weather sounds great. Does anybody know where the chew has been on? There are so many good holes in the area (Reetz, Waubay, Antelope, etc..) Thanks in advance.

If you want great Perch go to Waubay right now and fish 21-24', stay away from the "party-pack" and when you locate the school they'll bite best on 1/8oz. Gold Kastmasters (Firetiger pattern) with about 4 maggots on the treble hooks.

Bring some fatheads too and use a red #8 hook under a slip bobber for your set-line.

Be prepared to stay as mobile as possible cuz these fish are always moving around...

I've fished the area lakes open water by mid-April many years.

You probably noticed how thick the ice was this weekend. If it stays above freezing day and night and it rains on the ice a couple of times in the next couple of weeks the ice should be gone. We know the wind will blow just because it's Dakota!

As soon as the wind blows 20mph the ice will go in a hurry. I wouldn't be surprised if it is all gone by this weekend up north. Ice is already going out here is Soiux Falls, SD.

Was out with bklimek and a couple other buddies this past Saturday on Waubay. The fishing and weather was out of this world. We did have to work a bit to locate the perch. When we found them, they cooperated! It was a huge day for us and well worth the efforts and drive.
Can attest to lots of people out there. Just to nice NOT to be on the ice!
Do have to question how long the ice will last with the warmer temps?!?!!! Lots of water standing on the ice out there.
