The highest concentrations of Grouse in MN

The very best area to hunt in Minnesota is located in *********. Come on what do think this is the fishing forum where we tell things like that.. haha funny. I'll tell you the goto lure though. 7 1/2 shot!!! They're dying for it!!

So what do other people think is the best grouse hunting area in the state?

I've hunted in northern Wisconsin and northern Minnesota on private land and the Chippewa National Forest, and also the Park Rapids/Walker area in Paul Bunyan State Forest. They are some prime areas and I would say the Chippewa is the best. Lots of land to explore and logging roads that go on for miles and miles with swamps and clear cut aspen all over the place.

I can't wait for this weekend! I've got my gear ready and can almost smell the early morning leaves and the smell of gun powder. Even though the population is down I wouldn't miss it.

Yes seriously the areas of the state that are and have been open to logging is a good start. Can't wait. Anyone other grouse freaks out there?

Im definetaly going to make it out even if only for a little while... Im going to try and get some out on the roads or in a couple aspen stands i know of. Cant wait though!!!

I would say Nemedji. It's not the easiest place to get to but its worth it.

Beltrami Island SF. Endless trails, countless acres of land, usually plenty of birds... unless of course there was a spring flood like two years ago. That doesn't help the broods. I've have pretty good luck in the NE, too.

I noticed alot of woodcocks and sora's in the same areas you would find grouse. Does anybody hunt them? Do they taste good? Or is it a waste of time?

I quit shooting at woodcock because I don't especially like them to eat and I don't like limiting my gun to 3 shells when hunting Grouse.

I agree with Harmonica Bear, BI State Forest is a fantastic area with unlimited opportunites. I have hunted there much of my life and never have had a problem locating birds. All public to!

That forest is way up there by Canada. Maybe one of these years when they start the boom climb I will try beltrami. Until then you guys enjoy the awesome grouse hunting there while I work all day to get one or two down closer to the twin cities.
