duckbuster
My father-in-law has a really good looking one. Big blocky head, goes about 85lbs. Great thing about him is he is the most lovable thing in the world. One BIG problem though, he lives in the northern part of the state. I will certainly ask him if he has any interest though. OleOlson
I have a great Chocolate Lab. He is AKC and OFA Reg. He has Sired 2 litters before and is now eight years old with fine hips. My pal is a can do kind of guy and a fine hunter, But I may live too far from you. I live between Winona and Wabasha on the Mississippi. I thought I would drop my pals name in the hat.Harold Olson[email protected]
Redlantern
I'm curious as to what the value of the AKC is. From what I've seen with sled dogs, the AKC has pretty much ruined the Siberians Husky and Alaskan Malamute breeds by breeding for looks and not function. Along with unscrupulous breeders that don't give a dang about the dogs health, such as eyes, hips, hyperthyroidism, etc. Does this hold true in the hunting dog world? ------------------Erik

LABS4ME
Unfortunatley the being bred AKC means almost zip to a dog or it's owner. People put way to much emphasis on a dog being AKC. All it does is prove it's a purebred, giving you a chance to get the dogs pedigree. While they don't promote people to breed dogs just for looks, they also do not promote breeding dogs based on clear genetics. I really feel that the AKC should take a stand and require that dogs being bred carry clearances for hips, elbows and eyes or their prodginy are not registerable, or in the least not be able to register their offspring if bred. In a nutshell though, the AKC is just a big file cabinet, housing records on dogs, their accomplishments (show/field/obedience etc.) and setting standards for dogs. I know they make a ton of dough and I'm not sure "what would be in it for them" if they were to start requiring genetic screening. Probably less income as that would knock out all the registrations from the indiscriminate breedings. Until then, choose your pup from a reputable breeder that can prove to you the dogs in your pups pedigree are/were clear genetically thus giving you the best shot at a sound dog.Good Luck!
