Recommended Posts

i was just wondering if anybody could give me a tip on how deer season effects the way grouse act and can be found? i would think that after deer season the grouse are pushed into the deep woods and are very spooky (from gunshots and all the deer hunters)... but what does evryone think on this subject? let me know if any of this stuff is wrong... but dont get me wrong i love deer hunting but what are the effects of it on grouse? where do they go what are they like? and lastely what are some of the late season patterns of grouse?and how is everyone doing so far this year for grouse?

I wish I had a dollar for every grouse I've seen, fly by, perch in the tree I was standing in during deer hunting season, kid you not, almost got hit by one a couple years ago - spooked the %$$& outta me. I personally don't think deer hunting has any effect on them, I like to hunt them after deer hunting best of all (less hunters, foilage etc.) seems to me they head more for the pines and thick cover later in the year - I don't see them out on the trails and roads as much as earlier in the year or maybe it's just that the dummies that were hanging out there got wacked.

I've seen more grouse during deer season then any other time. A couple years ago I only managed to take a few during grouse hunting, on opener for deer I saw about a dozen in an hour. Don't seem any spookier than they are any other time, but I guess they are always pretty spooky.

I don't think deer season has any effect on Grouse. In our woods they seem to fly 50 ft and land when you scare them up, and there always seems to be a lot of them.

Once we get some snow grouse hunting can be very fun.

On the other hand, Grouse hunting your woods before deer season is not a good idea.
