Last Hunt

Did our annual game farm day before Thanksgiving hunt today.  I have three dogs and I decided to bring my 11 year old yellow lab, thought it may balance out the 1 year old lab and since it was a game farm it wouldn't be too tough.  She hunted for almost three hours, still had the heart, but didn't stand a chance retrieving with the other two dogs.  Finally towards the end one rooster almost landed on her after it was shot and she scooped it up.  Her last retrieve was when the other dogs were busy with some other retrieves.  For the first time in eleven years she didn't even wake up when I scooped the dog food into the bowls.  I brought it over to her and she was dead asleep.  I poked her and she ate like always.  I think she's healthy and will be around for a few years more but her official hunting days are over except maybe a leisurely grouse hunt down the driveway.  This isn't sad at all, she's merely retired and earned it.

Small small world, saw you guys there yesterday. Great story and sounds like a good last hunt. Hope her retirement is a long and healthy one.

You must have been one of the three guys that came in when we were sitting down after?  Funny.

Since I didn't mention where we were I will type this.  That golden retriever in the photo is from that Farm, my nephew has a two year old from there and his buddy has a one year old from there.   I think I've promoted some puppy sales.

After the hunt I walked over the kennel and asked if I could see the dogs they think would be the next ones to be having puppies.  "No".  I thought he was kidding and explained the deal and that  I may be in the market in the next year. "No, we don't like to risk they may bite someone."

2.  I'm pretty sure Mike Vick didn't dogfight with golden retrievers

3.  I'm not a child, I wasn't going to poke my fingers in the kennel

I chalked it up to someone having a bad day but got a little charged up at the time.   When we showed up I mentioned to him I had one of their dogs and he was back home, he said "I don't like dogs. "  I still like the place for reasons I won't mention so it doesn't suggest where it is.

Well, based on your story, I would never go near the place again. Who needs that attitude-there are many other options.

I wasn't real impressed with him that day either. Usually go there a few times a year so hopefully it's just an off day. Great place to hunt but a bad attitude would run it into the ground fast. Hope they realize that.
