How easy is it to find the lake to check in

Real easy. Harris exit 152 just north of North Branch. Couple miles west of there. You have my number call me and I'll get you there.

got the tips cleaned and sharpened on this one tonight. Then put a coat of rem oil on it. Now to dig out the diamond willow spear and touch that one up. Need to make tine guards for them.

they didn't mess around back in the old days. Them tines and barbs aren't messing around.

Early long range forecast is saying 25% chance of snow. High of 30deg and a light 5-10mph wind.

There's no escuse not to come out and play on Saturday. If you don't have a five tine spear come and hang out. Run some tip ups if you want to. Hang out and have fun. That's what this event is all about.

I might have some room in my shack. I will toss my spare shack in as well if someone needs a shack. The east central chapter is all about fun and participation so if you have never speared or want to try come on out.

i still see no reason that sitting on the couch would be more fun than hanging out at the lake. There's good ice. Lots of fun to be had. And who knows, you could get your name etched in the trophy for all eternity. There can be only one person who is first. No matter how many years this tradition holds for your name or monicker will be at the top of that list!

Well the weather seems to be a moving target. The local forecasters seem to be all over the place weather wise. Here is the latest...

Still not a bad day.

Here is what I do know. I will be at the lake between 8:00am and 8:30am to get things set up. For those of you who are interested in fishing at fish lake in Harris there will be members of the East Central chapter there to assist if you need help or have never been there before.  Fish Lake bait is at the top of the Harris exit ramp on the east side of 35 if you need some last minute bait.

If you are fishing elsewhere and are bringing a fish in or just want to come and hang out we will see you after 2:00pm or so. Best Spear voting starts at 3:00pm.

Best Spear winner as voted by the crowd will take home a Whittier Whitefish.

Hope to see you guys there.

No. I've had just the head for as long as I can remember. I think it was an old sucker spear that my dad had.  I actually used it as a rock guard on an old 10 horse outboard for a while. I finally decided to fix it up. I straightened out the tines(they are some strong ones) touched up the barbs and welded on a new handle.

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
