F.Y.I. Guys

I moved to MN around 5 years ago and head back to Iowa to get my fix of pheasent hunting from year to year. Talking with my Brother-in-law and Father-in-law they are seeing a lot of birds this preseason (Northwest by Spencer. IA) since the mild winter last two years have been great on the population of birds. Good luck to all and happy hunting.

I am finally getting to make a trip to Iowa this year chasing ringnecks. Minnesota is great because it has everything I could want to hunt and fish for, but Iowa just has better pheasant hunting (and not as expensive as ND or SD, yet). I haven't been able to get out and scout the farm country here in MN but I would expect bird numbers in all states to be up with the mild winters and warm springs. Anybody been seeing more birds this year. Once August hits I am going to make a few trips down towards Marshall/Granite Falls area to do my own August roadside counts. I am just chomping at the bit. It's a good thing I have bass fishing and duck hunting to tide me over.

Hunted Iowa for the 1st time last year and it was awesome! (Road trip to cheesehead country) Normally hunt in Kansas most weekends, only 3 hrs from Denver vs 10 to Iowa. Already have plans for this years trip back to Iowa.

A friend is from Dickinson, and goes every year for opener out that way.
Says there are TONS of birds.

Went back to Iowa this weekend for a birthday party. I had some time to take the pup out for a little training. Seen a couple of roosters going at it, around 7:15 a.m. on Saturday and then headed over to some public land and heard about another 5-6 cackling in different locations. This year is going to be great!!! I just wish the pup was a little older. Happy hunting guys.

It's great to hear the population is back up in Iowa. Several years ago I used to hunt the Carrol(SP?)IA area and absolutely loved it. They later had the hail storm, which made things a bit difficult. Now I do all my hunting in western ND (that is where my wife was from and the in-laws live. I would love to hear from anyone that hunts around that area, as it has been about 7 years since I last hunted the area. Lets all have a fun and safe hunt this year.

The best part about Iowa is if you buy your license later in the year it is good for the entire next season and you dont just get 2 weeks like you do in the dakotas.Adam
