setterguy
This is an open invitation to anyone with a pointing dog, or anyone that enjoys seeing world class foot hunting dogs in action. Our pointing dog club puts on three pointing dog trials per year, two in the spring and one in the fall. Our grounds are 20 minutes south of lake Mille Lacs on Hwy 169. The dates for our spring trials are April 12-13 and the 26-27, with the fall dates YTBD. The Minnesota Bird Hunters Association strives to encourage and develop the sport of pointing dogs and upland hunting. We have three age classes; Puppy, Derby and Shooting Dog, shooting dog being adult finished dogs. Our grounds include everything you may encounter upland hunting with your dog in Minnesota, open prarie, tall grasses and woods. Each dog handler is accompanied by a judge and has 30 minutes to find as many birds and show thier stuff. After each run (brace) there are more birds (chuckars) placed in the field. Dogs are judged on the following criteria: Ability to find, point and hold birds, style, ground coverage, recognizing objectives, handling and in the shooting dog division backing and retrieving. In the puppy division there are no requirements, the dogs are not even required to point. They are judged only on potential shown. I encourage you, if you have ever thought about attending a trial like this please come and watch and talk with some of the most knowledgable dog people in the area, if not the country. This is a competition, however newcomers are welcomed with open arms and believe me any dog has a chance to win if has a good 30 minute run. If you have any questions please post them here or feel free to contact me direclty, I would be happy to help and I hope to see some of you this spring.Setterguy[email protected]
Shorthair Guy
Hey setterguy, I would like some info on this competition. As you can tell by my user name I have a GSP. He loves to hunt and has a lot of natural tallent. It would be fun to see how he would do in a trial. If you could send me some info that would be great. Thanks Shorthair Guy[email protected]

setterguy
Brian- I didn't recieve your email, but to answer your question, 1st - 3rd place in every division recieves a plaque that says Minnesota Bird Hunters Association (insert place) and then the division. Any dog placing in any division is qualified for the American Bird Hunters Regional Championship this fall. This is a fairly new club with a limited number of members, therefore it is a great opportunity to place a CH next to your dogs name on the pedigree. If the mail doesn't work calle me @ 651-248-0155, ask for Justin.

Cobra
Tell me more....I have a 4 1/2 year old English Pointer out of field trial stock. I've been in field trial before and they were mostly horseback and for big money hoity-toids rather than hunters. Most people don't have access to either horses or the land to hunt off of horses. I'm looking for a hunting stock/foot style field trial. Please give me more info.....
