Thanks for the offer. I kinda wish it was still half days. It gave you time to goof off. My buddy and I apply together for a permit. Will have to work something out to get away. My hunt starts May 21st. I'll get a hold of you when it gets a little closer.

Maybe somone, should start a forum on "Turkey Hunting" I just got drawn from my first spring turkey hunt. I will be hunting in 341B and have only turkey hunted once before in the fall. I didn't see a thing, except some deer. I have read a couple of article, but have many questions that a more experienced hunters could answer. I checked the NWTF site, but not much info on hunting in Minnesota. Any thoughts?

You bet! your both welcome anytime!

My experience from last year is that unless you have permission on a lot of land, or land in a couple different areas, being able to hunt the whole day wasn't that big of an advantage.

The first two hours of day light are always best for me. After about 10am I found it difficult to get any response from the Toms, so I would start to "run and gun", and I have yet to be successful doing that.

So I would hunt till about 1pm then quit and go have lunch and go fishing for the afternoon, I don't have alot of land to hunt, so I'm afraid of pushing them out of my area if I presure them to much. Then about an hour before dark I head back out to "Put them to bed", listen to hear them when they go back up to roost.

BTW I'm hunting 347F. G.R.Zip you should have a great hunt with 347A, wish I could trade with ya. smile.gif

Yup, I feel pretty lucky with the draw, but my buddies didn't get drawn so I may be down there alone. Haven't hunted in the area before, just fished, so I hope to make a few scouting trips down there. Any advice? I'd hope there are some land owners willing to trade some time hunting on their land for me putting in some time working with them. I guess we'll find out!

Zip, I would highly recommend getting down here ASAP to find where your going to hunt.

There is some state land around, but that can be dangerous when turkey hunting(always scared me at least).

Another opion is to check with those who got landowner permits, they are supposed to let others hunt on thier land, but of course most know how to get around that. And since your the "A" season, they will be less likely to let someone hunt thier land before the get to, unless they are hunting a season that is alot later, so the birds have time to settle back down.

I do have some good maps and plat books of the area, if you need some help finding who owns what. Email me if you'd like to see them, and I'll try to help ya out.

Sarge, I couldn't get your e-mail in the profile. I might be down Saturday, and since plot books is on my list of things to get, it would be really helpful if I could get some from you. My e-mail is [email protected] send me a quick one, and we will figure something out. I have to choose, go to URL and catch crappies, or go scout down by you..... We'll see. Dan

Hey Sarge,

I have 2 areas that are allowing me on, a couple more that I have to follow up on. Your info and plot books were a big help. I will be down on the 22nd it look like, want me to bring the plot book then, or mail it to you? I will also be down for the trout opener I think. Talk to you later.....Dan

Good, glad they helped. Wish I would have been more awake when you stopped by. smile.gif Save the postage, just drop the one off at the house when you come this way again.

Did you get permission on the "yellow line" area? Hopefully when your next down next time there will not be a snow storm. And we can wet a line when your done scouting.

I got one Big Ol NO on the yellow line, both places I have permission are a little bit W and N of the mim matinence road. I have a couple more along the yellow line road tto follow up on. Must have been a fun Fri night last week. Nothing worse than a crazy bas*ard stranger driving through a snow storm and waking ya up when the sane folks of the world are asleep.

By the by, saw 2 toms, 1 of which was on the property I got permision to hunt.

Utterly impressed with the sucess you had behind your house. Honey Hole sound about right? Talk to ya later...

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
