What causes that or what is it?

I think it is a natural thing, several of the trees in this area have strange lumps on them. might be a parasite that makes the trees form lumps or knots on them.

If the lighting isnt perfect (time of day/brightness) THE FACE is hard to spot. Im 98% sure it is a Natural(god made) face on this tree trunk. Its possible that someone carved it years ago ,and the bARK is now growing back again, but it seems unlikely.
