Installing/swapping Minn Kota

Currently I have a PD V2 and am wanting to get something with Ipilot. So...either it's the PD V2 or Terrova. My question is this: Will the Terrova work with my previously installed quick release for my PD V2 or will I have to move it or replace it?

I'm leaning towards Terrova but if I need to replace or move my quick release I'm might just pass and go with the PD V2...it's just something I'm going to be to lazy to move with how its set-up now.

I had a PD of some vintage and when it died, I replaced it with a terrova. I reused the aluminum quick release plate although I had to drill and tap a new hole since it covered up the hole for the knob that secured the top plate from moving.

If you know the model of quick release you have, perhaps minnkota site would tell which it fits.

Thanks for the info.

I did send Minn kota an email and got a limited response. I thought I read somewhere that the terrova needed to stick farther out from the bow cause of the deploy system. Minn kota didn't answer that...only saying that it will work with the quick release I already have installed.

I would think it would work just fine provided your stationary bracket isn't too far back from the edge of the boat. I had a PD motor and just went to a Motorguide last year. Used the same bracket from Minnkota and it works perfect!

Well that changes everything! I had convinced myself that the MK quick release would not work with the MG. the new Xi5 has been in the back of my mind but I like some of the features of MK over MG...though MG would connect to my new state-of-the-art, high def, full 8.4 inches of maximum viewing HDS 8 with structure scan/down scan screening pleasure, topped with a side of 5 inches of hds 5 viewing pleasure! LOL

CM-

Did you get the Xi5 with pinpoint? Does your MG store routes/tracks? I didn't see that on the specs but I thought someone said it did? I feel the MK remote is better (one can see what they've pressed), you know if your in anchor mode, and you can store 6 routes which I'll use a lot. In honesty, I probably won't pair the HDS to motorguide...at least not for a while if I did go that route. Please share a review if you have the Xi5 with pinpoint...i'd love to read it. I hear MG has better spot lock/anchor mode. How do the wireless foot controls respond and last? same with hand remote? Are they reg batteries or special batteries like MK uses?

I have some time before I purchase...unless I see sales!

Clown color, yes I do have the pinpoint and I absolutely love the motor. Like you I did a lot of research going in but was leaning toward motor guide since I prefer lowrance electronics. One of the things that tipped me over the edge to MG was the much less amp draw at full load which translates to longer battery life.

I did a somewhat detailed review after my Canada trip last year but here's the gist...

Plusses --- super quiet, fast turning much faster than power drive, anchor mode is flawless, records more tracks and longer distances than minnkota.

I haven't used the foot control but its a heel toe style and wireless. It takes AA batteries I believe. The remote takes one of those big watch style batteries.

Some of my most used features are anchor mode, cruise control and heading lock. Cruise control is slick it will keep you at an exact speed and will adjust for wind changes or current to maintain the speed, while heading lock uses GPS heading to keep you in a direction. More accurate than autopilot. I used the anchor mode one day with the family with sustained winds of 20mph. We were on the edge of a group of anchored boats and they dragged the anchors while we stayed put. The nice thing is you can jog 5 feet inany direction while in anchor mode. I used this to avoid the other boats. Lol

The record a track and playback iI honestly didn't use much but it does work and work well.

If you want the best place to get your MG let me know and I will PM you. Saved hundreds when I got mine.

I cannot say a bad thing about it.

Awesome. I'll take you up on the PM for a place to purchase one...but I have a lot of cabela gift cards but I'm sure I can always buy something else from them!

Curious, do you know what quick release you have that worked with MG?
