Hi and welcome to Fishing MN. For bass there is a place in Bloomington called the Bass Ponds it is real close to the mall of America, they have some good bass and pike fishing from shore. Here are directions:
Bass Ponds

Bass Ponds trail head is at the end of E. 86thSt., approximately two miles from the Visitor Center. From I-494, exit on 24th Ave. Drive south past the Mall of America and turn left on E. 86th St. Follow the road on the left to parking area.

Also Lake Harriet can be good from shore especially in the evening throwing top water baits out over the milfoil. Good Fishing!!

Fishin4life - Welcome to FM! I grew up just like you - fishing with my mom in search of some bass. Now it's all I want to do - I'm addicted to bass fishing.

I have fished all the minneapolis chain of lakes and if you live right there - those are so close and accessable (not to mention are great bass waters) that I wouldn't head anywhere else. Calhoun & Harriet are my first choices. To find spots the fastest, use bobber/live bait (minnows or nightcrawlers on plain hook) and you'll catch a good number of fish and a few nicer ones. Once you learn of a couple good spots, you can make the switch to artificial baits to catch some really big fish.

Good luck!
