MN Mike
I'm finally going to put a scope on a Sako 7mm Rem Mag I've had for about 12 years, never used it, bought it from a collector that never shot it either, pretty much brand new in the box.I'm going to gear this gun towards long range shooting, probably going to zero it in at 300 yards with hopes of reaching targets out to 600 yards with confidence.Looking at scopes out there, I see a lot of options and obviously they don't come cheap.Anybody do any long range shooting that can give me some pointers on scopes?Been looking at Nikon, Leupold and Burris so far.Mike
fishuhalik
I can't recommend Vortex enough. Look at the Viper PST. It's the best value in scopes IMHO. Awesome no questions asked lifetime warranty & even better customer service. Mounted on a buddies awesome FN AR, I took 4 consecutive prairie dogs at ranges from 600-900 yards, measured with a rangefinder. Once you figure out the ballistics of the round you're using, all you have to do is figure out exact distance, windage between you & the target (probably changes a few different times in between), adjust, hold steady & pull the trigger. Doesn't that sound easy?
fishuhalik
The other question to ask, though, is whether your rifle can do it. If it'll consistently make sub-minute groups at 100 yards, go for it. If not, might as well find another rifle to start with
Powerstroke
I also love my Vortex scope. I recently added one to my Weatherby .308. THe rifle outshoots me by a mile. I shoot .7" groups at 100yds and my 200yd groups were 1.6-1.8". A lot of the reason for that is the ability of a quality scope to view the target at longer ranges and provide a crisp sight picture and hold the point of aim after several boxes of ammo. Also, Vortex has software on their HSOforum to help you create a ballistic chart for a scope with mil-dots or BDC reticle. Otherwise Vortex offers a deal to have a custom long rage turret made for your scope.
harvey lee
I would agree 100% with the others on the Vortex brand scopes. There are other brands with bigger names and cost more but for the dollar spent, the warranty, I do not know if you can beat this scope. The glass is great. These scopes will allow you to shoot as well as you or your rifle can.One suggestion I would make it, I know good scope cost but get the best model you can afford, you won't be sorry. May even pay to hold off a bit to save a few more bucks to get the scope that will serve you best, unless you are fortunate enough that cost makes no difference.
