Any reviews on the Eagle Claw inline reels?

I can only speak for the Eagle model right below the red spool one. I've not had any problems with my drag that little adjustments didn't fix. It's my favorite reel to use and I'll always recommend it for shallow water (<30') fishing.

I bought a couple this year as well and even though I have not thoroughly tested them, I'm not impressed. Any slack in the line and it seems they throw a loop. All new line also. I will continue to use my Tica's as primaries.

Tried mine for the first time today... It worked very well. Didn't catch anything larger than a medium sized perch so didn't get a chance to work the drag much but it felt smooth and no problems throwing a loop.

I know on my eagle claw inline I can adjust the tension on the spool so I don't get backlash (just like a bait caster). I just got my eagle claw this year and so far it is my favorite reel tempted to get a couple more. Just gotta play with them a little bit and remember to adjust the tension if you go to lighter or heavier baits.

The No 8 CGI is the way to go at this price point. I have had several Eagle claws. Once you find a good one...one that free spools cleanly and one that doesn't have a sticky drag and/or sticker drag star setting they only last a little while.

You will notice things like the spool free polling wile you are reeling in a fish, the drag star adjustment loosening on its own, the one way roller bearing (anti reverse) stops working.....Oddly you will also experience any combination of all of these on individual reels.

The No 8 for me has been a huge improvement although still not perfect. Had the anti reverse let loose on a nice gill tonight.

I have experienced that same problem. I have discovered if I place my pinky finger along the edge of the spool I can control the line coming off and preventing it from back spooling.

That said and I am used to this method, I have found I enjoy using these reels over my open face reels.
