BryanL
I have a small 20 acre patch of property in Kanabak county I want to make suitable for deer and turkey. It is about 75% high with a lot of mature oak and birch/aspen trees. There are almost no conifers of any kind. There is a huge state forest patch right across the gravel road and the rest is mostly privately owned. There are some crop field about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile away. Although the deer I shot this fall had a stomach full of browse. I know deer and turkey are both here but I want to make it suitable for them to stay as it looks like they are passing through. I welcome all suggestions to what to plant, where to plant, etc. thanks.
leechlake
I think to get them to stay you either need to make it a sanctuary or for there to be thick stuff. You can put a plot in to get them to feed there but I'd wager they want to bed wherever they've traditionally bedded and that's either an out of the way spot that gets little pressure or something thick. Especially once even Grouse season starts. Deer don't know the difference between someone grouse hunting or deer hunting in my opinion. It's all pressure. minky
Would planting spurce trees help add some thermal cover?
