venting a wood burner

Ryan_V

Question

I've had an old wood burner in my shed for a while (never used it). I would like to put it in my garage. My question is can I side vent it, or do they all need to be vented vertically? It won't be used continually, just on the really cold nights for the dog and the wife's car. Thanks

To get a proper draft with a wood stove the top of the pipe should be 2 foot above the peck of the garage. It also needs to be Class A pipe from the space to the top. Also check with the insurance to make sure they will allow it in the garage and they may have more requirements.

Do it right. We had a fire call a few weeks back for a shop that was on fire due to the wood burner. The shop was nearly a total loss but they saved a few cases of beer so there is that. Lost the dog that he kept in there during the day though.
