I just looked yesterday and did not see anything for MN or WI. I know MN is finishing up some survey so you will see changes in 2016 but nothing really big for 2015 spring.

WI permist I could not find when they were do either on the site. I'm thinking next week we might see something released for WI

I applied for the permit earlier this month. The dates were listed on the online ordering site.

B - 04/22/2015 thru 04/28/2015

C - 04/29/2015 thru 05/05/2015

D - 05/06/2015 thru 05/12/2015

E - 05/13/2015 thru 05/19/2015

F - 05/20/2015 thru 05/26/2015

I'm all signed up. Boy, I tell ya, the WI DNR site is sure more difficult to navigate than the MN one.

Here's some tips for non-residents applying in Wisconsin:

First off, residents get first pick. Period. Non-residents will never draw for the first time period, no matter how many preference points you may have. Ever. This is also mostly true of the second time period, however some have drawn for this, but not very many.

IF you choose more than one time period, you will draw the latest one you listed - EVERY SINGLE TIME.

So, if you want to draw an earlier time, period 3 is your best best. It is the Wisconsin fishing opener and very few residents will choose this time period because of that. Just remember, choose this time period only. IF for some reason you don't draw, you will probably be able to purchase permits for later times over the counter at a later date.

Me? I applied for the 4th period. We've been snowed out earlier the last two seasons.

Also, for whatever reason, we've had better luck in our area later in the year. We probably should have applied later yet, but don't want to spoil TOO much of my fishing season.

Hope this help. Good luck all!

Don

The fishing can wait when your chasing turkeys.

We apply for season E and have very good luck this season in our area. I found some tricks for trying to get earlier season also apply with a resident it seems to help getting an early tag.

Spring will no come fast enough , Ice fishing should help get me through the drought of turkey season. Going to the ice show tomorrow see what i can buy.

I may have asked this in the past, but is WI a fairly easy state to hunt for turkeys, as far as public land goes?

I have never hunted WI for anything before, but turkeys seems to be my gateway into checking out new states. I typically start on public and then try to make a few connections.

Is WI fairly conducive to that style of hunting?

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
