RiverChuckNorris
Starting to look at new tires for my 2011 F150 Supercrew. Wondering if anyone can provide any data points to consider around the tire width as it pertains to performance in the snow + ice (since that's what I care about most - other than being reasonably quiet on the highway).Specifically, my trucks calls for 275 width tires. I'd like to explore putting on something a bit wider (295-305), but I'm not willing to sacrifice snow performance for looks. Any thoughts? Also, does anyone have experience with the Nitto Terra Grappler's? Lip_Ripper Guy
I haven't use the Nitto's, but they do have good reviews. I have used the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac on your same truck. They are awesome in snow and on the ice. I do a lot of highway driving and they are a bit overly aggressive, so I ended up selling them. fishfinder72
I had nitto terra grapplers on my previous truck and was not happy with them in the snow/ice conditions. I just put duratracs on and am looking forward to seeing how they do in the snow/ice this season.
JeffB
My opinion and experience tells me for snow especially ice fishing wider will be worse. If my main concern was travelling on the ice through the snow I would go narrower or the same and as tall as possible. For mud and soft ground wider tires will help, but for snow on top of ice narrower is better.

fishing tech
Wide tires will tend to float or slide more meaning less traction/control.
iffwalleyes
I'll give a plug for Duratracs. Get a set of 10 plies and they will last over 60000 on a half ton. I have a pair that are ready to be replaced on a Chevy heavy duty and have gotten around 50000. They are great in snow and ice and in my opinion the road noise is not bad. But then again I am hard of hearing .
honda400ex_treme
Yokohama Geolander are a good tire as well. Toyo open country A/T looks like a Nitto Terra grappler as well both are good, once you get over 10 1/2" wide your winter traction goes down drastically, hinders mileage slightly as well.
